Marvel Comics’ beloved cat burglar Black Cat is getting a sci-fi-inspired new costume this September in Black Cat #14.
Black Cat #14 ties into the larger Marvel event Queen in Black. On the comics cover, it shows Felicia Hardy, otherwise known as Black Cat, in an old school sci-fi space suit featuring her signature fur, black spandex, and complete with a laser gun as she is being attacked by aliens. It is reminiscent of old pulp magazine covers and posters for classic TV serials.
Black Cat #14 is written by G Willow Wilson (Ms. Marvel) with art by Gleb Melnikov (The Immortal Thor). The comics’ official summary gives fans a closer look at what the next chapter holds. “COSMIC THEFT? The only hope to stop the Knull and the Queen in Black’s war is… BLACK CAT?! Oh, wait — she’s gotta steal something?! PURRRFECT! The stakes couldn’t be higher for Felicia. Hopefully, she knows how to fly a spaceship!”
Black Cat is Ready For Space Action in Her New Costume
The Queen in Black’s official solicitation sheds more light on the larger storyline: “QUEEN IN BLACK, the new crossover event spinning directly out of Al Ewing and Carlos Gómez’s run of Venom (2025), begins on July 22. Spanning a five-issue series by Ewing and Iban Coello, alongside essential tie-in limited series and issues, the saga follows Marvel’s heroes as they fight to safeguard Earth from an epic cosmic collision between Knull and Hela.”
Black Cat has undergone several costume changes since her debut in 1979’s The Amazing Spider-Man #194. Created by writer Marv Wolfman and artist Keith Pollard, Felicia Hardy frequently updates her look. At times, her costume has featured goggles, claws, or boots, but no matter the design, Black Cat’s outfits are always stylish and distinctive.
Black Cat has pulled off many successful heists over the years, and it isn’t always for money. She has stolen a mech suit from Iron Man, a wand from Wong, Dr. Doom’s mask, and even Infinity Stones. This solidifies her as the best cat burglar in all of Earth-616. Possessing both stealth and style, she is always able to get what she wants.
Sending the character to space is a fresh take on the character. Everyone already knows how good of a thief she is on Earth, but now she will have to prove her abilities on a much larger scale, where the stakes have never been higher, as the fate of the world is on the line. Has she truly turned over a new leaf, or is it all just for personal gain?
Black Cat #14 will be available on Sept. 9 wherever comic books are sold.
