Noomi Rapace is best known for her portrayal of Lisbeth Salander in the Swedish adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s “Millennium” book series, with “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” being the first in the trilogy. Her turn as the smart, reticent Lisbeth won Rapace several accolades, including one Golden Nymph (Nymphe d’Or) and a Satellite Award. She was also nominated for a BAFTA, an international Emmy, and a Critics’ Choice Award, among others.
Since then, Rapace has appeared in a string of notable films, such as “Bloodbrothers,” “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows,” “You Won’t Be Alone,” “Lamb,” and “Rupture,” among others. She is also known for playing Dr. Elizabeth Shaw in Ridley Scott’s “Prometheus.”
On the television front, Rapace appeared in shows like “Labyrint,” “Jack Ryan,” and “Django.” Rapace also delivered an extraordinary performance as astronaut Jo Ericsson in “Constellation.” She is set to appear in the television adaptation of “Assassin’s Creed.”
Rapace brings a rare intensity to the roles she embodies, which is why she is today’s Quote of the Day.
Quote of the Day by Noomi Rapace
“It’s about doing the best with what you have. Perfection does not exist, so embrace the cracks, embrace all the imperfections and faults and the wrongdoings, and just let it be okay. There’s this beautiful Japanese culture of repairing pottery with gold, it’s called kintsugi. It’s really something that I think we should adapt into our lives.”
The above quote is from Noomi Rapace’s interview with The Talks. When asked about bringing authenticity to the screen, Rapace said that showing up with the intention of doing one’s best is more than enough, as imperfections are bound to creep up. “There’s always something, so I try to embrace the now and accept that I have no control,” Rapace explained, referring to circumstances that often derail intended plans.
Rapace also referenced the art of kintsugi to emphasize that imperfections should be embraced. “Broken hearts will grow stronger, so we should celebrate it with gold,” the actor mused.
Deeper meaning of Noomi Rapace’s quote — do your best and embrace your flaws
Noomi Rapace contextualized her quote against her experience of working with Ridley Scott on the set of “Prometheus.” “My first day on set, Ridley said to me, ‘You don’t have to prove anything. Just come as you are,’ and to have a legendary, iconic director say to me that I should not change, that I should be me and trust what I knew … It was so reassuring,” Rapace stated.
As Elizabeth Shaw was Rapace’s first lead role in a major Hollywood franchise, Scott’s measured advice about authenticity helped her navigate any self-doubts that cropped up. While Rapace acknowledges that doubts and fears are a natural part of any creative endeavor, she urges everyone to take Scott’s advice to heart.
“…The older I get, I realize it’s exactly what Ridley said: Just be you,” Rapace said. Although being authentic comes with cracks and imperfections, these flaws must be reworked into the creative process.

I can have moments of satisfaction when I achieve something that was scary to do. It has been, possibly, a fear: If you get too comfortable, you lose your drive. I’ve been always pushing myself, because I don’t want to be comfortable.” — from a 2026 interview with Variety
- “I’m an actress. I can be anything, transform into whatever … I like underdogs and survivors who are struggling and searching for life … You can never rely on things you’ve done before. It’s only today that counts.” — from a 2013 interview with IndieWire
- “To be honest, I decided at one point never to see myself as a victim — to just step into the fire and never wait for people to come to me. I don’t do auditions — I’ve done five in my whole life. If I meet someone I like, we connect and find a project. So I’m very much my own engine.” — from a 2017 interview with The Independent
