Rob Lowe’s son Matthew reportedly considered postponing his wedding to Emily Markus less than two weeks after the death of his cousin, Fiona Lowe. Fiona died on Sept. 29, leaving behind her father, Chad Lowe, and the rest of her grieving family.

According to Rob Shuter’s Naughty But Nice, Matthew struggled with the idea of celebrating his wedding while his family was mourning Fiona’s death. The teenager’s passing had left the family grieving just days before the planned ceremony.
“Matthew couldn’t imagine throwing a glamorous Hollywood wedding while his uncle was burying his daughter,” a family insider told Naughty But Nice. “He was prepared to postpone everything. It just didn’t feel right.”
However, Chad reportedly insisted that the wedding go ahead as planned despite the tragedy.
“Chad told Matthew absolutely not,” the insider said. “He had already lost his daughter. He wasn’t going to let his nephew lose his wedding day, too. He wanted the family to have something to celebrate.”
The ceremony took place in Santa Barbara on Saturday, with Gwyneth Paltrow officiating. The guest list included Cameron Diaz, Katy Perry, Adam Levine, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña and Maria Shriver.
Rob attended with his wife, Sheryl Berkoff, and their younger son, John Owen. Chad arrived with his wife, Kim Painter, and daughters Mabel, 17, and Nixie, 10. It marked the family’s first public appearance since Fiona’s death.
“There were smiles, hugs and tears,” the source said. “Everyone knew who was missing. Chad was incredibly brave just showing up.”
The family had previously described Fiona as “the light of our lives,” underscoring the depth of their loss. Despite the circumstances, Chad reportedly wanted the family to come together and celebrate Matthew’s wedding.
“Chad wanted Matthew’s life to move forward,” the insider added. “Even though his own world has stopped.”
The wedding ultimately brought the family and several celebrities together for a celebration amid an otherwise difficult period of mourning.
