Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could win favor with King Charles after making a decision about their Christmas plans, according to a new news report. A royal expert has praised the Sussexes for what they consider a sensible move, suggesting it could spare the ageing monarch from a potentially awkward situation during the holiday season.
The couple returned to the UK on August 26, but speculation continues over whether they have reunited with Charles, Queen Camilla, or the Prince and Princess of Wales since their return.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s major Christmas move is reportedly the ‘most sensible thing’ they did
Royal expert Katie Nicholl has praised Prince Harry and Meghan Markle for reportedly making a sensible decision about their Christmas plans. Speaking on the Royals Uncensored podcast, Nicholl commended the Sussexes for allegedly choosing to spend the festive season in the United States with Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland, rather than waiting for a possible invitation to celebrate Christmas with the royal family.
Nicholl explained that an invitation from King Charles to spend Christmas at Sandringham appears unlikely. Even if the monarch were to invite the Sussexes, she suggested that the gathering could prove awkward given the ongoing tensions within the family. Instead of waiting for an invitation that may never arrive, the couple has reportedly decided to make alternative plans with Markle’s mother.
According to the royal expert, the decision could also spare Charles from having to navigate a potentially uncomfortable situation during the holidays. Nicholl said: “I just think the way they are neatly sidestepping this, taking themselves out of the equation, being proactive in the right way, could perhaps earn them some brownie points.”
Meanwhile, a friend of the Sussexes told The Sunday Times that Harry and Meghan will do whatever “Doria wants them to do” for Thanksgiving and Christmas. The couple previously spent their son Archie’s first Christmas in 2019 on a private holiday in Canada. In subsequent years, they celebrated the festive season at their home in Montecito, California.
However, the Sussexes have also received advice against attempting to reconcile with the royal family too quickly. Grant Harrold, the royal family’s former butler, has urged the couple to approach the prospect of spending Christmas with Charles cautiously and allow any reconciliation to develop gradually.
Harrold made his position clear, saying: “I don’t think it would be a good idea for Harry and Meghan to attend a royal Christmas this year; I think it’s just too soon.”
