More castmembers are stepping into the ring for House of Guerrero, the boxing drama that marks a reunion for director Gina Rodriguez and producer Justin Baldoni.
Chino Pacas, Clave Especial, Vic Blends and Emily Austin have joined Rodriguez’s feature directorial debut, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. With a script from Bernardo Cubría (Acapulco), House of Guerrero has begun production in Los Angeles and California’s Imperial Valley.
The indie film‘s latest additions join previously announced castmembers Carlos Sanson Jr., Rosario Dawson, George Lopez, Becky G, Tokischa and Rodriguez.
Based on an original story from Rodriguez and Cubría, House of Guerrero centers on a once-promising young boxer (Sanson) as he aims to return to the ring and reclaim the life he hoped to achieve. Clayton J. Barber (Creed III) and Eric Brown (John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum) are leading fight choreography for the film.
Pacas is a prominent singer in the Música Mexicana movement who is known for debut album Que Sigan Llegando las Pacas. Clave Especial is a chart-topping Música Mexicana group and recently released the breakout single “Ferrari.” Vic Blends is an acclaimed barber and entrepreneur with more than 25 million social media followers. Austin makes her feature acting debut as a boxing announcer, drawing on her real-life experience in the world of sports broadcasting after having covered major fights for platform DAZN.
Producers for House of Guerrero include Scott Budnick and Ameet Shukla for 1Community, Molly Breeskin for Rodriguez’s I Can And I Will Productions banner, and Baldoni and Andrew Calof for Wayfarer Studios. Wayfarer Studios, 1Community, HarbourView Media Group and Clare LoCicero are co-financing the movie that has tax credit financing from Three Point Capital. UTA Independent Film Group handles worldwide sales.
This marks the first collaboration between longtime friends Baldoni and Rodriguez since playing onscreen love interests on ABC’s Jane the Virgin. House of Guerrero is also the first major project that Baldoni has announced since he and Blake Lively reached a settlement in the legal battle that stemmed from their time on set together for Sony’s 2024 hit It Ends With Us.
“I have been following Chino Pacas and Clave Especial for a long while and have watched how they’ve thoughtfully developed an incredible following in the Latin community and beyond,” says 1Community founder and CEO Budnick. “It’s particularly impressive how they’ve leveraged their fanbase into touring and developed an intense and dedicated global following in the last couple of years. Vic has been my partner on so many different initiatives, and he has redefined what it means to connect with audiences in a deeply authentic way. We’re thrilled to welcome each of them to House of Guerrero as we continue to build a global youth anthem with this film.”
