Joan Smalls reportedly felt blindsided after learning that longtime friend Candice Swanepoel had started seeing Tom Brady, whom Smalls had previously been involved with.
A source claimed Smalls and Brady had seen each other on and off between 2023 and 2024. Although their relationship never became serious, the insider said the two continued keeping in touch afterward.

According to Us Magazine, the situation reportedly upset Smalls because of her longtime friendship with Swanepoel.
The two models had known each other for years and built a close bond while working in the fashion industry, including for Victoria’s Secret.
The source also claimed that Smalls had previously discussed Brady with Swanepoel and confided in her about their relationship. When Swanepoel later began seeing Brady, Smalls allegedly viewed her friend’s involvement as a betrayal of their friendship.
“To her, it was just the ultimate breaking of girl code,” the insider claimed.
The source added that Smalls was more hurt by Swanepoel’s involvement than by Brady himself.

One source also claimed that Swanepoel had previously warned Smalls to be cautious about Brady because his marriage to Gisele Bündchen had recently ended.
According to the source, that history made Swanepoel’s reported relationship with Brady even more difficult for Smalls.
Another source clarified that Smalls and Brady had hooked up but never officially dated.
