There is no sugar-coating it – reading is getting more expensive, but there are still ways to get free ebooks, including a one-a-day sent to your inbox offer this month!
The lure of free (or even 99c) ebooks is nothing to sniff at, either. While book prices have traditionally not kept pace with inflation, staying mostly stable, the last year or two have seen spikes in price that are rippling through the industry. While estimates of cost increases range (and it’s difficult to pinpoint a specific figure for such a sprawling industry), booktokkers and booktubers are increasingly talking about whether or not a $35 hardcover is really worth it… and that’s before we get into the sprayed edge, special edition shelf-trophies.
All of which means that while those shelf trophies are still a book lover’s pride and joy, cost can make anyone a little hesitant to pick up new authors – where is where Stuff Your Kindle and Free Ebook events come in. Since Zoe York launched SYKD in 2014, events where authors drop free (or extremely discounted) books for a limited time have become increasingly popular, and expanded to Kobo and other book services as well.
This month, there is even an event that will email out a new book/story each day in July, saving readers the need to work through an entire catalogue of Stuff Your Kindle listings (the definition of champagne problems for readers – too many free books to choose from!).
How To Get A Free Romantasy Story Sent To You Every Day In July
The FarRo Society are launching the ‘one a day’ event this year, switching it up from a traditional Stuff Your Kindle event. Usually, a Stuff Your Kindle includes a range of free ebooks, normally in a catalog released in the run-up to the event. And while it’s no real hardship to scroll through free titles, some SYKD events have dozens, even hundreds of participating books, which can get overwhelming.
Instead, FaRoCation runs from July 1 to 31, with subscribers receiving a new romantasy, PNR, or monster romance every day, straight to their inbox. The event promises “authors you know and love and exciting new names”, but doesn’t provide a full catalog or look-ahead at the specific authors themselves. It’s also worth noting that many of the books have a limited shelf-life, so readers should keep on top of the daily blasts, rather than waiting to the end of the month to collect them all.
Every Other July Stuff Your Kindle Event
For those who prefer a more traditional SYK event, there are plenty coming up in July, including events for Romance, Non-Fiction, Sci-Fi, Dystopian, Fantasy, Romantasy, and Mystery reads, as well as Indie Visible’s ‘Anything Goes’, covering all genres (and which leans more to the discounted than the free, but has both).

There are more free ebook events coming up in August, but with such a broad range of genres and this sheer volume of events in July, even without FaRoCation, it’s possible to get free ebooks every single week of the month. Happy reading!
