“S.W.A.T. Exiles” has officially found a network home, with Starz picking up the spinoff series in the U.S.
The series, which will see Shemar Moore return as Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson, will premiere on Starz on Sept. 25. Series producer Sony Pictures Television has also secured distribution deals for the series across every major region, including Europe, Latin America, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East and Africa. It will air in select international territories day-and-date. New episodes will air weekly on Fridays and stream on the Starz app and across all Starz streaming and on-demand platforms.
The logline for the show states, “After a high-profile mission goes sideways, Daniel ‘Hondo’ Harrelson (Moore) is pulled out of forced retirement to lead a last-chance experimental S.W.A.T. unit made up of untested, unpredictable young recruits. Hondo must bridge a generational divide, navigate clashing personalities and turn a squad of outsiders into a team capable of protecting the city — and saving the program that made him who he is.”
Along with Moore, the cast includes Lucy Barrett, Adain Bradley, Zyra Gorecki, Freddy Miyares and Ronen Rubinstein. Original cast members Jay Harrington and Patrick St. Esprit will return, reprising their roles as Sergeant David “Deacon” Kay and Commander Robert Hicks, respectively. David Lim will also return as Victor Tan in the penultimate episode.
The reboot of “S.W.A.T” debuted on CBS in 2017. The broadcast network originally canceled the show after its sixth season, only to reverse course and announce it would be back for a seventh and final season. Then, the show earned an eighth season reprieve, only to be canceled once again.
