Taylor Swift is undeniably one of the most famous women in the world — so how does one who gets to call her a sister manage to evade the spotlight so tactfully? Well, that’s the story of Austin Swift’s life!
At Taylor and Travis Kelce’s star-studded Madison Square Garden wedding earlier this month, the pop singer notably passed on a plethora of bridesmaids in lieu of ONE maid — or in her case MAN — of honor: her brother!

On Sunday, an insider spoke to DailyMail.com about the Fortnight singer’s decision to bestow the honor on Austin:
“She asked Austin in person, and it turned into a very emotional moment for both of them … Taylor made sure he knew just how much she appreciates everything he’s done over the years, especially knowing that many people view him as living in her shadow. … She wanted him to hear directly from her that she has never seen it that way. In her eyes, Austin has always been her equal, someone she deeply admires, loves and respects.”
Awww!
The source noted:
“[It] wasn’t just about honoring her brother. It was Taylor’s way of thanking him. She also told him that so much of the person she has become is because of the bond they’ve shared growing up. In many ways, the qualities she values most in Travis — his kindness, authenticity and genuine nature — are qualities she has always appreciated in Austin.”
How sweet is that?!
A second insider noted Austin “was highly honored” but “a little timid about it” when it came to taking up the role.
Well, we can definitely understand why! We mean, Taylor and Travis apparently had around 1,000 wedding guests! That’s a LOT of people to stand in front of as someone who avoids the spotlight! Not to mention the event was reportedly filmed, too!
And, see, according to the source, Austin downright “doesn’t like the spotlight.” The insider said:
“He leaves that up to Taylor. They have totally different personalities.”
According to the outlet, Austin lives on a serene five-acre property in Tennessee that he bought for $2.5 million in 2011. But while he may be far away from the glitz and glamor of Hollywood, he’s quietly been a sturdy pillar behind Tay Tay — despite fighting with her like cats and dogs as children.
In 2025, the Blank Space singer opened up on Sirius XM’s The Morning Mashup about growing up with Austin, who’s two years younger than her, in Pennsylvania and later Tennessee:
“I’d try to annoy him so much that he’d lash out and try to get me in trouble, it was a nightmare, but then he learned all the sounds that annoy me.”
But somewhere along the way, their rivalry turned into respect:
“It’s crazy — we work together now, and we’re best friends. I don’t know what year it happened, but we just looked at each other and went like, ‘Truce.’”
Awww! A second DM source added:
“Taylor relies on him a lot. He’s one of the few people she trusts one hundred percent. That’s why she’s involved him in lots of her business deals.”
Austin notably works at Taylor’s management company 13 Management helping license out her music for film, TV, and more. According to the outlet, he and momma Andrea Swift were major players in the negotiation to buy back Taylor’s master recordings last year!
On top of all that, Austin also has played the role of a careful watch dog helping weed out some of the bad eggs that’ve come into the pop sensation’s life. In Opalite, Tay memorably sings:
“I had a bad habit of missing lovers past, my brother used to call it ‘eating out of the trash.’”
HA!
But innerestingly enough, there’s one man in particular Austin pictured his big sis marrying… and it wasn’t Travis! The source dished:
“He was close friends with Joe [Alwyn]. He thought he and his sister would end up together.”
As we know all too well, Taylor dated Joe for six years prior to getting together with Trav. And while the public may have never seen much from the private relationship, Austin developed his own camaraderie with Joe. But that doesn’t mean he’s salty about who she did end up with! The insider dished:
“He’s close to Travis. From the moment [Kelce] got engaged to Taylor he’s called him his brother.”
That’s so nice!
So now that the Teardrops On My Guitar singer found her happily ever after, how about her little bro? The insider dished:
“Austin isn’t seriously dating anyone right now.”
The 34-year-old was reportedly in a committed relationship up until recently. But while he may be a bachelor at the moment, Taylor has tried to “set him up on dates in the past but they’ve never worked out.” Sad! The insider added:
“She wants to see him settled down and in love. Especially now that she is.”
Well, when the time is right, we suppose!
