Gundam Wing Debuts Bandai’s Most Advanced Gunpla Technology Ever

While it was far from the first entry in the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise, New Mobile Report Gundam Wing was the first one released in the West and one of the most iconic in general. Thus, it makes perfect sense that one of its most recognizable mecha is taking on a new color scheme courtesy of Bandai’s newest technological breakthrough.

The MGSD Wing Gundam Zero [Structural Coating/Black] has finally been revealed at its full capacity, with the kit first being announced months ago. Based on a diminutive kit that combined detail with a small size, this version is filtered through a new lens that’s meant to showcase all the colors of the rainbow. The result is a dark yet colorful collectible that’s now available for pre-order across the globe.

The Wing Gundam Zero Flies Into the Rainbow With Newest MGSD Model Kit

Bandai’s new MGSD Wing Gundam Zero [Structural Coating/Black] is a redux of the 2024 kit released in the mobile suit’s traditional colors, but with a twist. The Structural Color Coating is a first for Gundam plastic model kits, and it replaces the injection e-runner parts of the original kit with those that are processed to shift through various colors at once whenever light passes through.

This creates an incredible silhouette that perfectly coincides with the matte black/grey finish of the rest of the kit. As an otherwise unchanged version of the previous MGSD model kit (which combines the detail of a Master Grade model kit with the small size of an SD, or super-deformed, Gundam), it has all the weapons and features of the normal variant.

These include the Twin Buster Rifle, which can be split into two firearms, along with a shield and two Beam Sabers. The accessories are also cast in the same colors as the rest of the kit, with the Beam Sabers featuring a bright, vibrant hue of blue. It can even transform into the Neo-Bird Mode, which is a spaceship form that takes full advantage of the unit’s wings.

Now available to pre-order through Premium Bandai U.S. until Oct. 16, 2026, the kit will cost fans $137 and is expected to fly into their collections sometime in January 2027. This design of the Wing Gundam Zero (piloted by Heero Yuy) with the organic wings famously debuted in the OVA movie New Mobile Report Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz, which was the true finale to the After Colony timeline in terms of animated adventures.
