Cyberpunk 2077 is easily one of the most beloved open-world sci-fi games in modern gaming, clawing its way to the top after a somewhat disastrous initial launch back in 2020 with dozens of quality-of-life improvements, gameplay updates, etc., over the years. A major milestone in the game’s redemption arc was the release of the hugely popular Phantom Liberty DLC, which sold over 3 million copies in its first week after launch.
That’s why it was a bit of a disappointment when fans learned that CD Projekt Red didn’t have plans to release any additional DLC for Cyberpunk 2077 beyond Phantom Liberty, opting to move forward with the franchise with a highly anticipated sequel, currently codenamed Project Orion. However, believe it or not, a completely unexpected brand-new Cyberpunk 2077 DLC was just officially announced at this year’s Summer Game Fest, and it’s going to be available this coming Monday, June 8 (via X).
Cyberpunk 2077 officially returns this Monday with an incredible new DLC in the form of the Version 3.4 update for the critically acclaimed open-world action RPG, Wuthering Waves. Officially announced at SGF yesterday, June 5, the Version 3.4 DLC will feature new Cyberpunk: Edgerunners content in the form of “the new 5-Star Resonators Lucy and Rebecca … and you can snag the 5-Star Resonator Rebecca for free.”
For the uninitiated, Wuthering Waves is a free-to-play open-world action RPG set in a post-apocalyptic world where humanity is rebuilding after a catastrophic event known as the Lament. Players take on the role of Rover, an amnesiac wanderer who explores the world, uncovers their past, and recruits powerful allies called Resonators. The newest Resonator additions feature iconic characters from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, the hugely popular anime series by Studio Trigger and CD Projekt Red set in the world of Cyberpunk 2077.
In the anime series, Lucy is a skilled netrunner with a secretive past connected to Arasaka and dreams of escaping Night City for the Moon, while Rebecca is a loud, reckless, and heavily armed mercenary whose fierce loyalty and larger-than-life personality made her a fan favorite. Both characters became iconic figures in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, and are making a triumphant return in Wuthering Waves on June 8.
If you haven’t had a chance to play Wuthering Waves and are a big fan of Cyberpunk 2077, it’s well worth checking out and will scratch some of the same itch, though with obvious differences considering it features gacha-style mechanics.
