Marvel Studios is rebooting X-Men with an all-new feature film set to introduce a fresh take on the iconic mutant team. Several new additions have just been announced for the cast, with a handful of major characters now confirmed for the new film.
The X-Men reboot was addressed at Disney’s D23 Expo 2026 on Friday evening. It was formally announed that the movie will feature Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Christopher Abbott as Professor X, Maya Boyd as Storm, and Adam Driver as the supervillain Mr. Sinister. Navarrette was reported to have been having meetings with Marvel, generating rumors about her casting, while there have also been reports about Driver being up for a major villain role. These rumors are now officially confirmed.
Following the introduction of Sadie Sink as Jean Grey in Spider-Man: No Way Home, the hype is growing for Marvel Studios’ new take on X-Men. While some Marvel movies have featured special appearances of a handful of X-Men stars reprising their roles, the upcoming reboot will be the first proper X-Men movie made that’s set within the MCU. By putting younger actors in main roles, it would appear that the goal is for the door for sequels to be left open with many of the stars returning for multiple more films.
Jake Schreier is directing the untitled X-Men reboot following his work on Thunderbolts*. The screenplay has gone through multiple writers, with Schreier reportedly working with Thunderbolts* writer Lee Sung Jin (Beef) and Joanna Calo (The Bear) on the current draft. Along with Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, it was reported ahead of D23 that Kit Connor (Heartstopper) would be playing Cyclops, while Samara Weaving (Ready or Not) has been cast as Emma Frost.
Now, the rest of the cast is quickly coming together as well. The four names announced at D23 are all major X-Men characters, though there are still some others who have yet to be revealed. One burning question is if a new incarnation of Wolverine will be included. Given how long Hugh Jackman has been closely associated with that role, there’s going to be a lot of pressure on any new actor who ends up taking over that part. It does not seem likely that the new X-Men movie will not use the character at all, but there’s been no indication at this time about who might play the new version of the fan favorite mutant.
The X-Men reboot does not yet have a set release date.
