The wait for the return of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is finally ending with the debut of Season 18 on Aug. 17. Just ahead of the big day, early reviews for the new season are coming in, and they’ve given the hit sitcom yet another perfect score.
Currently, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia has a perfect 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, becoming the ninth season of the series to do so. The reviews submitted so far give the sitcom a lot of credit for remaining as funny as it is after 18 seasons, a very rare and impressive feat for any comedy series. JoBlo’s Alex Maidy said It’s Always Sunny “could go on forever,” as ScreenRant’s Grant Hermanns wrote that Season 18 “certainly still stands above many comedies on the air to date.”
The Gang Is as Funny as Ever in Season 18
” After 17 seasons, it’s hard to believe that the Gang still has any comedy left in the tank, but Season 18 proves to be another knockout,” CBR’s own Jamie Parker also said in a review. “More than 20 years into its run, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is still the funniest show on TV. Season 18 is one of the strongest seasons in recent years and maybe even of all time, with only a handful of minor issues holding it back. The Gang is as funny as ever, and it’s a continued delight to see the owners of Paddy’s Pub terrorizing each other and the people of Philadelphia.”
The new season is debuting one year after the conclusion of Season 17. It also comes with an increase in episodes, which is something else that’s sure to please the fans. It will consist of 10 episodes, returning to the format that it used from Seasons 8–14. The past three seasons have all only had eight episodes.
The Gang Heads to the Renaissance Faire
Of course, the entire Gang is back in Season 18. That includes Charlie (Charlie Day), Mac (Rob Mac), Dennis (Glenn Howerton), Dee (Kaitlin Olson), and Frank (Danny DeVito). Other familiar characters who can be seen in the new season include Rickety Cricket (David Hornsby), Artemis (Artemis Pebdani), Uncle Jack (Andrew Fridman), and Sam (Carol Kane).
There will be several particularly interesting episodes in Season 18. Sneak peeks have revealed how there is an episode of the Gang encountering LARPers and nerds at a Renaissance Faire, while another sees Frank getting married at a funeral-themed ceremony. The Gang will also be returning to school following their Abbott Elementary crossover in Season 17.
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 18 is set to premiere on Monday, Aug. 17, at 9pm ET/PT on FXX. It will also air on FX and stream on Hulu. The premiere is a two-episode event, while additional episodes will be released weekly up through the finale on Oct. 12.
