Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will continue to explore the animated world of Night City, fleshing out the universe that first started with CD Projekt Red’s video game, Cyberpunk 2077. The first season, at this point, is considered anime royalty by many fans, as the story of David and Lucy resonated deeply with many. Thanks to the conclusion of Edgerunners’ first season, seeing these star-crossed lovers return was always a long shot, though the latest trailer for season two appears to be swinging in a wild new direction. Set to arrive this October, the second season proves that the more things change in Night City, the more they stay the same.
One major commonality that the two seasons of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners share isn’t just the focus on Night City’s residents and this futuristic setting, but the Edgerunner class making a return. However, rather than focusing on an aspiring Edgerunner like David, the second season focuses on a character named “Weak Kingsley.” Weak has already become a legend of Night City, mostly living without the technology that brought him to the top of the food chain. Unfortunately, it seems as though Kingsley is going to be dragged back into the world he once left behind, leaving many to wonder if he’ll face the same tragic ending that David experienced in season one. Cyberpunk: From Rags to Riches

Cyberpunk as a franchise has gone through some wild years since the video game first hit personal computers and consoles. Following numerous delays, Cyberpunk 2077 released in 2020, giving fans an experience that many fans weren’t prepared for. While CD Projekt Red did give fans a living, breathing world to explore in the digital landscape, the game was originally littered with technical glitches that caused many to stay away from Night City at the start. Ironically enough, a big part of what helped resurrect the game was the arrival of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners itself.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners arrived on Netflix in 2022, brought to life by none other than the legendary production house Studio TRIGGER. For those who need a refresher, TRIGGER has been responsible for amazing anime outings including Kill la Kill, Promare, and Delicious in Dungeon. So big was Edgerunners that CD Projekt began adding characters and elements from the anime directly into the video game, helping to spark a resurgence of players who were willing to give the digital outing a whirl. At present, the video game producer hasn’t confirmed if elements from Edgerunners season two will arrive in 2077, though we certainly wouldn’t be surprised, considering how the anime adaptation worked in tandem to help the game hit new heights. Luckily, we can all check out the second season when it lands on Netflix on October 20th.
