Fans devoted to a certain franchise have until next year to “catch ’em all.” That is, if they want to be finished by the time a new Pokémon hits theaters.
The beloved universe has been celebrating its 30th anniversary all year, as die-hards are well aware. And on Sunday night, August 30, a new teaser dropped for Pokémon: Wild Card, which is “coming 2027 and beyond.”
The 39-second spot features a shimmering card, a shimmering Pokémon and a trading-card player — followed by the title cards, of course, that reveal the 2027 release date and movie title itself. As it turns out, the Pokémon and player could be one and the same: Mimikyu, who disguises itself as the iconic Pikachu, yet its true form is hidden below its yellow clothing.
“Get ready for Pokémon: Wild Card, an all-new animated film featuring a Pokémon TCG player and Mimikyu! Stay tuned! 🎬” reads the caption of the YouTube upload’s caption. See below.
Fans have already flooded the post’s comments section to express their excitement and intrigue. “Art style looks amazing,” wrote one YouTube user, while another person commented, “Finally a new movie. Been wanting one for years.”
Variety reports that the film was announced during the closing ceremony of the 2026 Pokémon World Championships, held in San Francisco. Wild Card is the first Pokémon movie made since Pokémon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle, which was released on Netflix in 2021.
