A pair of shamefully underrated action icons join forces in our new look at the long-awaited sci-fi action sequel in one of the wildest franchises, arguably ever. Combining a world-ending alien invasion with slick martial arts spectacle, this particular franchise started as a low-budget, isolated disaster movie 16 years ago and has since exploded into a full-on action sci-fi blockbuster. And in the latest installment, it’s time to go to war.
Both The Raid star Iko Uwais and John Wick’s Scott Adkins will be forced to team up in the delayed sequel, Skyline: Warpath, continuing the Skyline franchise which began back in 2010. However, while the first Skyline is largely set in one place, an apartment in Los Angeles, and follows a small group of friends as they witness a terrifying alien invasion take place, things have since evolved into an epic action saga, with the 2017 sequel, Beyond Skyline, bringing The Purge: Anarchy star Frank Grillo and Uwais into the fray.
Skyline: Warpath sees Uwais reprise the role of Sua, the leader of an underground human resistance, and picks up five years after the events of Beyond Skyline. The sequel will follow Sua as he hunts for a powerful artifact to fight the aliens, known as the Harvesters. A run-in with a friendly Harvester living hidden in a secluded village threatens to upend everything the military Resistance believes, forcing Sua to choose between his duty as a soldier and his own moral clarity in what’s been described as a “thrilling, stunt-forward action movie.”
While Grillo is nowhere to be seen in Skyline: Warpath (he’s now busy fighting superheroes as Rick Flag Sr. in James Gunn’s DCU), the franchise has found the perfect replacement in John Wick: Chapter 4 and The Rip star Scott Adkins, who it has been revealed will be playing a mysterious “dual role.” Director Liam O’Donnell (Beyond Skyline) returns for Skyline: Warpath, and while we’re still awaiting a release date after the movie was pulled from Fantastic Fest 2025, the filmmaker has now taken to X/Twitter to share several new images and a promise that “It’s coming, one way or another. My most personal film, made with the best in the world.”
Led by the one-two action hero punch of Iko Uwais and Scott Adkins, the rest of the Skyline: Warpath cast includes Louis Mandylor (Rambo: Last Blood, The Debt Collector), Randall Bacon (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), and Yayan Ruhian (The Raid).
Iko Uwais and Scott Adkins have teamed up on-screen before in the action movie Triple Threat, with the pair continuing to fly the flag for no-nonsense action flare outside the world of Skyline. The former is all set to lead the 70s throwback MRI as a hitman trapped in a hospital under siege and share the screen with Jake Gyllenhaal in the Amazon action sequel Road House 2, with the latter making his directorial debut in Brawler and concluding his white-knuckle franchise with the upcoming One Last Shot.
