Zoe Saldaña just reprised her role as Joe McNamara in Lioness Season 3 after a two-year wait. With the success of the spy show, the actress weighed in on a potential Taylor Sheridan expansion.
The Sheridanverse is filled with actors who have switched from one project to the other, whether in film or TV. With more time to release new shows and movies on Paramount+ before his departure to Universal, Sheridan could reunite with Saldaña on a new project. However, speaking to People, the Oscar winner clarified that she had her hands full with Lioness and isn’t looking to add another show to her belt.
Zoe Saldaña Isn’t Crossing Over to Other Taylor Sheridan Shows
“I think that Joe McNamara and Lioness is all that I can handle at this time,” the actress replied when asked whether she would consider crossing over into another Sheridan series. Saldaña stars and executive produces the Paramount+ spy thriller, and noted her work starts before the camera starts rolling.
“I’m number one on the call sheet,” she explained. “I am first one in, last one out. I am prepping months before anybody ever is able to prep. So it’s already a lot of work for me.”
The Avatar star added, “I can’t imagine me taking on more of a Taylor Sheridan world,” and explained, “The good takeaway that I’m grateful for is that he knows that I’m reliable, just like Joe is.” She also added that Sheridan knows she is “honest,” “tough as nails,” and “vocal and opinionated.”
As for more shows, she clarified, “I have my views, and I come with all heart, all brains, all muscle at all times. So, no, I think I’m good here at Lioness.”
This comes after her Lioness co-star Michael Kelly has just joined Landman Season 3 in a key role. “Michael can’t be going there and doing more work,” she added. “If we do come back for season 4, we have him first.”
Will Lioness Get Season 4?
So far, Paramount+ hasn’t weighed in on the series yet, but it has been a constant success throughout its run, which ended on Sept. 20. Lioness debuted in the Nielsen charts, constantly staying in the Top 10 since its early August debut. For the week between Sept. 7 and 13, Lioness amassed 834 million minutes viewed and was in sixth place overall and third place on the Original charts, behind Reacher and The Gentlemen.
Season 3 also received encouraging reviews, holding a strong 88% approval score, slightly below Season 3’s 90% score. Audiences gave it a 77% rating, in line with the previous two installments.
Speaking about a potential Season 4, Saldaña said she doesn’t know where the story would go. “I don’t know if we’re able to go to a Season 4. I don’t know where he would take it.”
Taylor Sheridan created the series, wrote all 24 episodes, and was also the showrunner. Saldaña co-stars with Laysla De Oliveira, Dave Annable, Jill Wagner, LaMonica Garrett, and James Jordan.
