Supergirl has entered HBO Max‘s charts alongside one of the platform’s biggest horror titles. The DC film is currently challenging the hit movie Backrooms for the top position despite underperforming at the box office.

Backrooms has taken the top spot on HBO Max’s U.S. Top 10 chart, placing it ahead of Supergirl on the streaming service. According to FlixPatrol, Backrooms ranked No. 1 on September 28, 2026, while Supergirl followed at No. 2. Their current streaming rankings come after both films completed their theatrical runs earlier this year.
For Supergirl, the No. 2 position comes after a worldwide theatrical run of just under $126.5 million, according to Box Office Mojo. The film earned approximately $72.3 million in the United States and $54.1 million from international markets following its release on June 26, 2026. Directed by Craig Gillespie, the movie stars Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, also known as Supergirl.
Kara’s story begins after a brutal tragedy sends her on a dangerous journey through space. She sets out on a revenge-driven mission and eventually joins forces with an unlikely companion. The film’s cast also features Jason Momoa as Lobo, Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem, Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, and David Krumholtz as Zor-El.
Sitting one place above Supergirl on HBO Max’s Top 10 chart is Backrooms, which was considerably more successful at the box office. According to Box Office Mojo, the film has taken over $400 million worldwide, including approximately $197.5 million domestically and $202.5 million internationally. Directed by Kane Parsons, Backrooms was released in theaters on May 29, 2026.
The film follows a therapist whose patient disappears after a strange doorway appears in the basement of a furniture showroom. The passage leads to a dimension beyond reality, forcing her to enter the unknown in an attempt to find him. Chiwetel Ejiofor stars as Clark, with Renate Reinsve as Dr. Mary Kline, Mark Duplass as Phil, Finn Bennett as Robert “Bobby” Franklin, and Avan Jogia as Naren Warne.
