Just two weeks in, Fall 2026 has already unveiled some of its best anime titles. While it usually takes at least a season to determine the true potential of an anime, some Fall 2026 series have already stolen the scene from the very beginning. A heart-pounding premise might not guarantee a splendid run, but a few new debuts are already shaping up to be masterpieces.
From hilarious fantasy anime to slice-of-life comfort watches and even unusual romance stories, the fall 2026 anime season has revealed its top contenders. Each of the series has a different selling point, but they are all geared to be future must-watch titles.
The Laid-Off Cheat-Granting Mage Goes Beyond Generic Fantasy Anime Tropes
Despite having a title that evokes the imagery of an average isekai anime, The Laid-Off Cheat-Granting Mage Enjoys a Second Lease on Life, or Chii Fuyo, turned out to be one of the best fall 2026 fantasy anime. The anime begins with Rein getting fired from a guild, but after retrieving all the points he had spent on his guild mates, even his humble clothes and bronze knife become overpowered combat weapons.
Rather than relying on a generic storyline of an underdog hero’s rise to power, Chii Fuyo builds up its characters with humor and charm. Rein is an unusual protagonist who is cheerful and happy-go-lucky and chooses to become an adventurer instead of chasing after revenge. Animated by P.A. Works, Chii Fuyo has beautiful, flowing animation that keeps the audience engaged.
FX Fighter Kurumi-chan’s Stakes Are a Little Too Real for Comfort
FX Fighter Kurumi-chan is a surprising entry in the fall 2026 anime lineup. The anime focuses on an extremely niche topic of high-stakes Foreign Exchange trading. Despite its pastel color palette and cutesy characters, FX Fighter Kurumi-chan actually discusses topics like the devastating consequences of reckless trading.
FX Fighter Kurumi-chan begins with the story of Kurumi, a middle school girl whose mother commits suicide after losing a large amount of money, leading Kurumi to aim to make it big in the FX market. The anime realistically shows the blinding highs and the crushing lows of the trading world and how it can easily lead to financial ruin.
Even the Student Council has its Holes! Is Full of Unusual Humor
Adapted from a popular 4-koma manga, Even the Student Council has its Holes!, has quickly cemented its place amongst the fall 2026 anime lineup. The anime follows Ume Mizunoe, who is outstanding at literature but fails in science. Ume decides to join the student council, only to discover that each and every member is an eccentric.
From the charismatic and repressed president, to the PR who tries to scam newbies and even the perverted treasurer, every member of the student council is a piece of work in Even the Student Council has its Holes!. Studio Passione has already won over fans with the animation quality, and the series has been creating quite a ruckus amongst comedy anime lovers.
Overgeared Puts a Hilarious Spin on a Typical Power Fantasy
Overgeared follows an underdog protagonist’s rise to power, but the main character is unlike any of the usual overpowered and aloof heroes. Grid is no noble savior, but a greedy, broke, and obnoxious fellow who struggles both in real life and in games.
The anime revolves around a VR game that can even translate into real-life fame and money. Rather than being gifted with a list of cheat skills, Overgeared’s Grid receives a legendary book that forces him to build high-stat items. Grid cannot slash his way to the top, and instead he has to craft like his life depends on it, creating a hilarious premise which is filled with action scenes.
Firefly Wedding Is a Romance Anime With a Threatening Aura
Firefly Wedding follows Satoko, a sickly noblewoman from the Meiji era, who is targeted by an assassination. In a desperate plea for survival, she ends up proposing to her assassin, Shinpei. To the surprise of every anime viewer and the protagonist herself, Shinpei turns out to be an obsessive guy who immediately accepts Satoko’s proposal, paving the way for an unhinged and psychological romance story.
Firefly Wedding already has a strong start in the Fall 2026 anime season, with a powerful visual style and color palette. The anime is a historical romance thriller, with a mix of danger and obsession amidst beautiful Meiji-era-inspired aesthetics. The constant uncertainty over the relationship between Satoko and Shinpei is already building up the anime’s popularity.
