While famed author Harlan Coben continues to deliver hit after hit during his tenure at Netflix, a new crime thriller has risen to challenge Coben at his own game. Despite the absence of familiar Hollywood stars and the fact that many viewers require subtitles, the show has become one of the biggest in the world, standing alongside mega hits like Reacher and Neagley. If you’re up for a quick weekend binge, this six-episode series is your best option.
‘Red Queen’ Returns to the Streaming Charts with an Unbeatable Season 2
The series in question is Red Queen (Reina Roja in Spanish), Amazon Prime Video’s brilliant action thriller based on the novel of the same name by Juan Gómez-Jurado. Season 1 premiered in February 2024, with seven episodes adapting the first book in Gómez-Jurado’s series. Season 1 was very well-received, earning an 83% critics’ score and a 94% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, and prompting Amazon to renew the show for Season 2. Although Season 2 hasn’t garnered enough reviews to get an official score, the positive reception is undeniable.
Red Queen tells the story of Antonia Scott, a woman with extraordinary intelligence who has helped Spain’s police force solve crimes through a program called Red Queen. In Season 1, Antonia joins detective Jon Gutiérrez as they try to find the answers behind a series of crimes against the children of powerful people. In Season 2, based on the second book Black Wolf, Antonia and Jon investigate the disappearance of Lola Moreno, the wife of a man connected to the Russian mob. However, a contract killer known as Black Wolf appears on the scene and changes everything, turning the investigation into a dangerous race to find the missing woman.
Red Queen is currently among the most popular shows in the world. According to the latest update to the charts, the success of Season 2 has sent the show up Prime Video’s rankings. From September 28 to October 4, and within the non-English-language category, Red Queen was the fourth most-watched series on Prime Video globally.

‘Red Queen’ Will Return with Season 3
Not only has the detective thriller returned to become a hit on streaming, but Amazon has raised its bet on the show. Before Season 2 was released, Season 3 was greenlit and produced back-to-back with Season 2, although there is no official release date yet. It has been reported that Season 3 will follow the events of Gómez-Jurado’s third book in the Antonia Scott universe, White King.
