Rotten Tomatoes revealed its official Tomatometer score (average positive critic score) for DC Studios’ Clayface. With 44 reviews tallied from critics, 77% of them are positive, ranking between 2025’s Superman (83%) and 2026’s Supergirl (52%).
ComingSoon.net‘s Jonathan Sim spoke highly about the new DCU movie, calling it “exactly the kind of ambitious, mid-budget superhero filmmaking the genre could use more of” and dubbing it “one of DC’s best movies to date.” Independent‘s Clarisse Loughrey praised star Tom Rhys Harries for doing “much of the heavy lifting,” crediting him for working “each scene with such wounded intensity” that his performance shines through the prosthetics he dons for the role.
MovieWeb‘s own Molly Freeman was not as high on this new film, saying it “offers more gross body horror than compelling character study” and that it has only “few redeeming moments.” Black Girl Nerds‘ Chalice Williams was high on Clayface, calling it “undoubtedly one of the best horror films of the year” and “should not be written off” as just a comic book movie. The Hard Pass‘s Mike Ryan put it a little more bluntly, saying the movie will “leave you with ‘that was okay-face.’
More to come…
