As two new Lord of the Rings movies push further into development, Prime Video is also adding new Middle-earth-centric content with new stories in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Set thousands of years before director Peter Jackson’s first movie, this show is largely centered on the forging of more than a dozen magical Rings of Power, including the eventual creation of the One Ring to Rule Them All. This includes new developments for various races in this universe, including elves and dwarves, while also exploring Sauron’s rise to power.
Known as Prime Video’s most expensive show, The Rings of Power will dive into its third season before the end of 2026. This season is expected to be the most intense set of episodes yet, as plot details confirm that Sauron will put forth his most dedicated effort yet into forging the One Ring. Prime Video released the first trailer for Season 3 at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, advancing the story by five years and bringing it closer to the War of the Last Alliance. Now, as the show inches closer to its return, new footage is teasing more of what’s to come.
