The Prime Video original series Cross finished up its second season this past March, and the streamer didn’t waste any time in renewing the show. The announcement of new episodes coincided with the Season 2 finale, promising another exciting batch of television. It’s unsurprising considering that the previous finale featured the titular character making an important decision that will undoubtedly change the structure of the show. Now, with casting now underway for Cross Season 3, a beloved Hellboy alum is joining the production as a key character.
It has been announced that Ron Perlman has been cast in Cross Season 3, playing a cop who has more secrets than he would care to admit. The next installment will serve as a creative reunion between showrunner Ben Watkins and Perlman, as the two previously worked together on the Prime series Hand of God. While the series only lasted two seasons, Hand of God established a creative partnership that was clearly fulfilling enough for Watkins to bring Perlman onto this upcoming production. The official casting also came with a brief description of the character, which teases what viewers can expect.
“As Herschel Zamora, Perlman’s character is a cop first and everything else second. Following a series of troubling work-related incidents, Officer Zamora is referred to Dr. Alex Cross for therapy. As Cross digs deeper, he realizes Zamora may be concealing something far more troubling than PTSD.”
It seems that the third season will follow up on Cross’ decision to stop working with the police at the end of the last season, and focus on his other skills as a psychologist. However, despite wanting to leave the intense life of a cop behind, his skills may end up taking him back into dangerous territory as he attempts to uncover the secrets of Perlman’s character.
Cross Season 2 focused on billionaire Lance Durand (Matthew Lillard) after he calls the FBI for protection following a death threat that is linked to the death of another billionaire playboy. The season explored vigilantism and its consequences, providing a different kind of antagonist that led to some exciting episodes. With a fresh rating of 90% on Rotten Tomatoes from 20 critic reviews, the second season was distinct and featured a climactic ending that justified renewal.
The upcoming season will seemingly follow the trend of doing something different with the characters and world of the series; this time coming from the perspective of Cross as a psychologist. At the time of this writing, there is no set release date for Cross Season 3. However, now that casting is underway, it seems likely that the upcoming episodes will shoot this year. That timeline should set the stage for a late 2026 or early 2027 release window on Prime Video.
