The Nate Bargatze controversy is almost two weeks old at this point, but when you’re dealing with the political voice of a generation, you don’t rush perfection. These thoughts take time to percolate, and such was the case when Meghan McCain deigned the Bargatze topic worthy of her MyFatherian gaze. But, first, longtime Pajiba readers are no doubt wondering if I somehow made these topics collide with my mind, and the answer is yes, fear me.
Weighing in on Twitter, a garbage platform where literally every other comment cruelly asks when she’s going to take Ozempic and yet she still stays, Meghan dug deep into her experience as the daughter of a United States senator to offer her intellectual musings on the intersection of politics and pop culture.
Respectfully, who is shocked Nate Bargatze is conservative. https://t.co/RXo0s44RqU

Wait… *lifts up tweet, looks underneath* … that’s it? Dang, Meghan, don’t strain yourself. Save some strength for the Jell-O shots. Well, to answer her question, nobody is shocked that Nate is conservative! We were talking about it all the way back in September after he started openly touting his Southern Baptist upbringing and how he could’ve easily gone the “cancelled” comedian route but chose not to. (For now.) Like a machine gun bullet into a creek bed, the point flew over your head, Meg.
The issue isn’t people figuring out Nate’s obvious political leanings. The issue is Nate showing up to the president’s Manly Birthday Man-Fight on the White House lawn and trying to act like his presence was magically non-political. That’s what’s getting Nate dragged by other comedians.
Via Variety:
“No one cares how much you wanted to see the fights at the White House,” [W. Kamau] Bell continued. “The White House is currently registered as the home of a fascist… If you don’t want to be a member of Team Fascism, then after we see you with fascists, it is up to you to actively and immediately begin digging yourself out of the fascism hole and working your way back to the correct side of history. For the record, a statement from your rep or a social media post – or really anything short of immediate real world action doesn’t count.”
In Meghan’s defense, at least her contribution to the discourse didn’t involve making up weirdo lies about Nate Bargatze marrying a 17-year-old and then getting mad when it’s debunked. She had an insight that was as shallow as a thimble and brought literally nothing to the table, but at least it was honest.
