Ariana Grande is stepping back from the spotlight after she completes her Eternal Sunshine tour. The news came amid fans’ concern over the 33-year-old singer’s appearance. Viewers have pointed out Grande’s apparent weight loss throughout her tour and in her latest “Petal” music video, which was released on July 31, 2026.
“Ariana will be taking a step back from visibility after she completes the Eternal Sunshine Tour,” a rep for the “Yes, And?” artist told People on August 2.
Shortly after the announcement came out, Ariana addressed her fans during her August 3 Chicago concert, telling them that the story got “blown out of proportion” and she “wanted to speak to [her] fans directly.”
“The announcement that was made yesterday was not a reactive or impulsive thing,” she told the crowd. “It is something that I had decided to plan that I had quietly made a long time ago and it’s a decision that was made from a thoughtful and empowered place. And I want you to know many things can be true at the same time. I want to share this because I heard that my fans were worried that negativity was ruining things for me, but I just have to say that could not be more the f**k opposite. Honestly, this is not what that is. And I just want to be very, very clear: Multiple things can be true at the same time. Yes, boundaries, they need to be set. Human beings can need a break sometimes. And also, this can be and will continue to be the greatest experience of my professional and creative life.”
Grande’s tour is scheduled to conclude on September 1. Here’s what we know about the reason why she’s taking a break from work and her health.
Has Ariana Grande Lived With Health Issues?
Yes, Grande has managed health problems in the past. In a previous Tumblr post, according to multiple outlets, the Nickelodeon alum revealed she struggled with hypoglycemia: a medical condition that causes a person’s blood sugar (a.k.a glucose) to decrease beneath a healthy level.
“As some of you guys may know, I’ve struggled with awful hypoglycemia for my whole life and it’s improved a ton since I changed my eating habits,” Grande’s Tumblr post read, per Women’s Health. “I just wasn’t taking care of myself at all. I was making really poor choices. This is about making sure the foods you put in your body will nourish you and be put to good use.”
At the time, Grande explained that her vegan diet wasn’t about “being skinnier,” but rather about being healthier.
“The reason why I lost so much weight as I did is because I used to live on junk food,” she explained. “So, I drastically changed my eating habits, started excising daily, and I’m all around a healthier me. … I was happy with the way I was before and I’m still happy now! Just healthier. I’m eating as much as I was before, the content has just changed. … The way I’m eating now has actually helped even out my blood sugar.”
Why Is Ariana Grande Stepping Back From Public Life After Her Tour?
According to Grande’s rep, the pop star “looks forward to finishing the tour and ending it on a high note, both healthily and happily, and then taking a much-deserved break from public-facing work and appearances, which has led to endless, ongoing public scrutiny.”
“This tour has been a beautiful experience for her,” the rep’s statement continued, per People. “She loves her fans and has loved every minute of this tour so much.”
Ariana then told her fans during her August 3 Chicago show that “human beings can need a break sometimes.”
Why Did Ariana Grande Seemingly Lose Weight?
As fans have already seen, Grande has seemingly shed pounds, noticeably in her arms and collarbone. She has not publicly commented on the speculation about her appearance, though a source close to the Don’t Look Up actress told People that her Eternal Sunshine tour involves extensive movement.
“She performs a very physical show, and there is a lot of athleticism involved,” the insider told the outlet. “She performs healthily and successfully at a very high level night after night.”
