According to Closer, Harry is still optimistic about spending the festive season in England following his family’s recent return. The outlet reported that the Duke of Sussex hopes they can divide their time between Princess Diana’s family at Althorp and King Charles. Ideally, he would also like to join the rest of the royals if possible. However, Meghan is said to have a very different view of the situation.
An insider says that the Duchess of Sussex “can’t think of anything worse” than waiting to see if their family receives an invitation. She fears waiting around for word on whether she, Harry, and their children will be included in the Sandringham celebrations.
The source claimed Meghan has little interest in pretending that relations with the Waleses have improved. “She knows they’re not going to be sitting down at Sandringham like everything’s suddenly fine,” the insider alleged.
Furthermore, the Duchess reportedly wants to avoid awkward family gatherings altogether. The source claimed Meghan has no desire to spend Christmas socializing with senior royals she believes have made their feelings toward the Sussexes clear. “Frankly she doesn’t want to spend the holidays making uncomfortable small talk with William and Kate,” the insider said.
According to the source, spending several days with the Prince and Princess of Wales is particularly unappealing. “That would mean having to endure days on end faking it with the Waleses, and that’s a pretty grim prospect,” the insider claimed. “There’s no doubt it would ruin Christmas for Meghan.”
The reported disagreement comes as Harry is said to want to remain in Britain over the holidays. According to the report, Meghan would prefer to return to California and spend Christmas with her mother, Doria Ragland. The couple have also developed their own holiday traditions in the U.S. in recent years.
The source also suggested the differing priorities have created tension between the couple as the holidays approach. Harry hopes to stay in England, while Meghan reportedly wants to return to the United States for Christmas.
