Disney and WEBTOON are teaming up to launch an official new storytelling initiative, and it all starts with a Beauty and the Beast sequel.
During the Future of Digital Comics: Disney, Marvel, & WEBTOON panel at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event 2026 this past weekend, attendees became some of the first in the world to learn of Disney Publishing’s new Disney Cursed Love initiative, which will consist of entirely new romantasy titles inspired by some of Disney’s most beloved animated films.
First up is The Curse of the Forsaken Heart, written by author Emily McIntire and illustrated by artist Samairu, which is slated to arrive on the WEBTOON platform before being made available in print next year.
The Curse of the Forsaken Heart Kicks Off a New Era for Disney and WEBTOON
The official solicit text for The Curse of the Forsaken Heart from WEBTOON and Disney Publishing reads, “Belle and the Beast (in human form) get sucked into a magical world through an enchanted stained-glass window. Once trapped, they quickly realize the fate of the realm is tied to the kingdom’s princess, Emberlynne: a woman who didn’t yield to the marriage proposal of an evil sorcerer.”
The solicit text continues, “As a result of her refusal, the entire kingdom is cursed to live without love and anyone who steps foot inside it is also cursed. Belle and the Beast will have to not only find their way back to their own love, but also help the princess find hers in order to lift the curse from the kingdom and return home.”
New York Times #1 Beststelling Author and The Curse of the Forsaken Heart scribe Emily McIntire herself said of the new title during the Future of Digital Comics: Disney, Marvel, & WEBTOON panel, “If you’re a Disney fan, you’ll get that nostalgic feeling — Belle and her prince are there, living happily ever after, and then they’re pulled into this world with new characters.
I love putting in Easter eggs that give you that butterfly feeling from the first time you fell in love with these legendary Disney characters, and hopefully fans fall in love with these new characters just as much.”
The Disney Cursed Love initiative is the latest in a long line of major launches that WEBTOON has announced and rolled out over the past year, not to mention just the most recent step in the platform’s ongoing partnership with Disney. Per an official press release from WEBTOON, “Disney Cursed Love will engage readers through seductive, action-packed romantasy adventure, entangled in dark magic, terrible curses, and epic romance.”
During D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event 2026, several major WEBTOON announcements were made, including the upcoming addition of two more fan-favorite Star Wars titles to the platform. Both Star Wars: Visions — The Followers of Ankok by the legendary Peach Momoko and Star Wars: Visions — The Ronin and the Droid by Afro Samurai creator Takashi Okazaki are set to make their way to WEBTOON soon enough, and they aren’t the only Marvel Comics titles on the way.
Shortly after the Disney and WEBTOON partnership was itself officially announced in 2025, WEBTOON Chief Strategy Officer and Head of Global Yongsoo Kim expressed major excitement at the prospect. “This is just the start,” Kim promised. “Together, we’re bringing this legendary storytelling to a new generation of mobile-native comic fans, while giving existing fans a new way to experience series and characters they love.”
