Grand Theft Auto 6’s Enormous File Size Revealed Ahead of November Launch

Nobody was necessarily expecting the long-awaited Grand Theft Auto 6 to have anything but a massive file size. Nevertheless, the amount has been revealed, giving gamers a chance to see just how much space they should clear up before the official launch of the game in November.

According to a leak posted by PlayStation Size Games on X, the $80 standard edition of GTA6 on PS5 will be a whopping 210 GB. The data comes from information pulled from the PlayStation Store that reveals how much space each particular release will need. With that noted, Rockstar has not formally announced the game’s specific file size at this point. A number was not shared for the $100 Ultimate Edition version, which includes bonus content not available with the cheaper option.

Start Clearing Up Space Now for GTA 6

GTA has double the size of the last game Rockstar released, Red Dead Redemption II. It’s also more than double what Grand Theft Auto 5 has become after many years of adding new content. After originally releasing on PS3 and Xbox 360 with an 8.5 GB file size, GTA 5 is now around 100 GB. Mandating such a large chunk of space is one reason why pre-loading GTA 6 will be available a week before its official release, giving players time to have the massive game downloaded and ready to go once the clock strikes midnight on Nov. 19.

The new GTA is expected to be one of the most ambitious open-world games ever developed. Its map alone is described as twice the size of GTA 5. There are a variety of environments, from the colorful, busy city life of Vice City to a massive wilderness area and swampy wetlands. The game will also be much more detailed than its predecessors all the way down the line, including its environments, character models and animations, and more. That’s not even touching on the variety of side activities that can be done outside of the main story.

There’s No Shortage of Things to Do in GTA 6

GTA 6 features two protagonists, including the first-ever female playable main character for the franchise. They are Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, partners in both romance and crime. Full details about the plot have not been revealed, but what’s known is that Jason and Lucia get pulled further into the criminal underworld of Vice City after their attempts to improve their lives go horrifically wrong. Players have the option of exploring the romance between the two main characters, though this is not mandatory, and anyone is free to forget about that part and focus on missions instead.

Grand Theft Auto 6 will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on Nov. 19, 2026. Pre-loading will be made available on Nov. 12.
