Art Garfunkel’s upcoming concerts won’t go ahead as scheduled, as the singer was forced to pause his current tour. The “last minute” move comes amid a health issue that the legendary 84-year-old singer might have missed if it hadn’t been for his wife.
Garfunkel rose to fame in the 1960s alongside Paul Simon thanks to the music they performed together as the folk-rock duo Simon & Garfunkel. Still actively taking the stage these days, Garfunkel has now postponed the four UK dates of his What a Wonderful World tour that were to happen this month in Watford, Manchester, Wolverhampton, and London, due to what was originally blamed on “unforeseen circumstances,” according to The Mirror.
However, the singer later revealed more details, saying, “During rehearsals for my upcoming concerts, I nearly postponed a scheduled appointment with my physician. Thankfully, my wonderful wife, Kim, insisted that I keep it.”
“As it turns out, I have been diagnosed with a respiratory infection, and my doctor has advised me to take some time to rest and recover,” he continued. “My heart is broken that I must postpone these performances. At this season of my life, to be so warmly received by audiences and surrounded by so much love is a gift beyond words. Singing for you has always been one of the greatest joys of my life, and the thought of disappointing you saddens me deeply.”
Garfunkel’s tour kicked off in July and has been stopping in cities across both the US and Europe.
The beloved performer went on to say that he “will return to the stage and sing” as soon as his “health allows and the theaters have dates available … to reschedule.” He then told his fans, “Please don’t worry about me. I’m in good hands, and I expect to be just fine. I simply need a little time to get back to doing what I love most.”
