Assassin’s Creed Shadows is on the verge of getting its final content update, and Ubisoft has just lifted the veil on what to expect. A free update on June 16 will give us a final quest bringing Naoe and Yasuke’s story to a close, while other additions will offer some final gameplay challenges and give us some unlockables to bridge the gap over to Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced.
“A new threat washes ashore,” Ubisoft’s official rundown of the new story quest begins. “Two elite-level Templars known as ‘Black Cross’ are called to Japan to hunt Naoe and Yasuke for all the trouble they have caused. But as is often the case with the Templar Order, those Black Cross may have additional goals of their own: It’s up to our two protagonists to prevent them from acquiring whatever they seek – and manage to stay alive…”
You’ll need to have completed both the original game’s main story as well as the A Critical Encounter and A Puzzlement quests in order to access this new mission. In the video below, associate game director Simon Lemay-Comtois teases that these three missions constitute the game’s “real ending,” and I don’t know whether to be excited or upset by that declaration after how disappointing I found the game’s conclusion at launch.
Watch On
On top of the Black Tides story quest, the update also adds “a brand-new Animus activity that will put your RPG build crafting skills to the test.” Called Domains, this will be a series of challenge levels that’ll let you earn a host of new end-game gear and other upgrades.
And finally, this update also kicks off a pair of Projects – essentially battle passes – that’ll offer rewards in both Shadows and Black Flag Resynced, and you can progress them in both games. The video above teases some pirate-themed gear for Naoe and Yasuke in Shadows, as well as some Japan-themed outfits for Edward Kenway in Black Flag. Hopefully this’ll all make the wait for Resynced a little easier to bear.
