The following contains spoilers for Avatar: Seven Havens Episodes 10-13, now streaming on Paramount+.
Just like the Avatar cycle ends and begins anew, so do television seasons. The first season of Avatar: Seven Havens has already come to an end, but it’s just the beginning for Pavi and Nisha.
As the third series in the Avatar: The Last Airbender franchise, Seven Havens has shaken what people expect from the children’s fantasy universe. No more are the days of the four nations learning to live in harmony with the spirit world. Seven Havens sees a post-apocalyptic world with not one, but two Avatars fighting a mysterious Anomaly and learning the truth about their past. The Season 1 finale may not answer every question, but it certainly sets up an exciting new adventure.
Pavi and Nisha Clash in Avatar: Seven Havens Season 1 Finale
The final batch of episodes takes place after the Faceless Bandits’ confrontation with Kayoko, in which Nisha reveals herself as the Avatar. Both Nisha and Pavi are on the run but thankfully find each other in the Harshlands and are taken in by Agam, the Faceless Queen and a baker in disguise.
As the Anomaly grows into a colossal dome ready to swallow Ellora and its people whole, everyone finds themselves making unexpected allies and enemies. Kayoko has fully turned into a dictator, willing to betray any defector and take the Avatar herself, believing Nisha is responsible for the Anomaly. Meanwhile, Jae releases the White Lotus as part of his long game to help the Avatars.
In a surprise turn of events, the White Lotus and the Faceless Bandits work together to buy Nisha time to stop the Anomaly, but a dark secret keeps her from fulfilling her duty as the Avatar. The final episodes show the truth of their past, which was that the twins’ planned to leave Nisha behind because of her dangerous powers. A young Nisha discovered the family running away, and in an emotional outburst, released the Anomaly herself. The devastation killed their parents and amputated Pavi’s leg.
Pavi confronts her sister for not only breaking up their family as a child, but keeping it a secret. But when Nisha collapses under the weight of the truth, Pavi lifts said weight. She faces the Anomaly head-on, revealing herself as another Avatar, and uses her powers from unblocking her root chakra to destroy it for good.
Avatar: Seven Havens Establishes a New Avatar Journey
However, Season 1 doesn’t necessarily conclude with a happy ending. Pavi is still reeling from Nisha’s betrayal and decides to go separate ways. Nisha remains in Ellora, and is now declared a hero by the public. Pavi, on the other hand, uses a spiritual message from Korra to guide her and Jae to another haven, the Floating Isles, to unlock her water chakra.
Voice performances for Season 2 have already been recorded, and many people speculate that the new season will arrive sooner than later. But there’s still time to theorize what the bittersweet split between the twins means for the upcoming story. More importantly, Pavi and Nisha’s roles in the Season 1 finale may have already indicated what the story is trying to say about why there are dual Avatars.
It appears that while there are two Avatars according to their powers, there might still be one “true” Avatar as the cycle has determined for thousands of years. Having been in the realm of cosmic energy, connecting to her past lives and unlocking the first chakra, Pavi seems to be the next real Avatar after Korra. That leaves a lot of questions as to where Nisha’s powers came from and why they’re considerably darker.
But for now, it looks like Nisha is embracing her role as the people’s Avatar, while Pavi embarks on a classic Avatar journey of helping other communities and tapping into her true power. Others now alongside Nisha include Karthik, Agam and Daemin, leaving Pavi and Jae quite alone on their quest. But seeing that Zi is off to the Republic Forest as the new Faceless Queen, Pavi and Jae might reunite with some old acquaintances. The Avatar still needs their gang after all.
