Ben Affleck just gave fans a playful throwback to Good Will Hunting, but this time he swapped Matt Damon for a new scene partner. The actor and director revived one of the film’s most quoted moments to promote his upcoming Netflix thriller, Animals.
Kerry Washington steps into Damon’s shoes in a TikTok video she posted. She mimes Will Hunting’s famous window scene while Affleck sits at a table as Clark, the smug Harvard student who hits on Skylar.
Washington pounds the glass and asks, “Do you like apples?” Affleck answers, “Yeah.” She then slams a piece of paper against the window and mouths, “Well I got her number. How do you like them apples?” The paper swaps Skylar’s digits for a release date: “Animals October 9th Netflix.”
Affleck played Chuckie Sullivan opposite Damon in Good Will Hunting, and the two remain close friends. He originally wanted Damon for Animals, which he also directed. “I had such a joyful, amazing experience working with [Damon] on Air,” Affleck told Entertainment Weekly. “It was just automatic. We had the best time of our lives, really.”
Scheduling got in the way. Damon was busy filming Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, so Ben Affleck took the lead role himself. “He chose a smaller director and a smaller film and a smaller role for his career, and I think he’s gonna suffer for it. He’ll regret this choice,” Affleck joked.
Animals follows a Los Angeles mayoral candidate whose son is kidnapped. With campaign spending draining their finances, he and his wife race to raise ransom money, exposing secrets they never wanted revealed. The cast includes Affleck, Washington, Gillian Anderson, Adriana Paz, Luis Gerardo Méndez, Steven Yeun, Ray Fisher, Matt Gerald, Mark Kassen, and Christopher Woodley as the kidnapped son.
Animals hits select theaters and Netflix on October 9.
