We live in a society where the impulse to commemorate a moment, a person, a feeling or an entire aesthetic vision permanently on your body apparently hits hardest at the worst possible times. And celebrities, who have access to the best tattoo artists in the world and presumably at least one person in their life willing to say “maybe not,” continue to make decisions with permanent ink that the rest of us have to look at forever.
In honor of accountability and the general public’s right to be entertained, here is an updated look at the biggest celebrity tattoo fails that have the internet still talking.

Gucci Mane — The Ice Cream Cone
The OG of the list and perhaps the most legendary bad tattoo in rap history. As Revolt documented, Gucci Mane got a three-scoop ice cream cone with a lightning bolt on his face and the internet has never recovered. He has since leaned fully into it as part of his brand, which is either the most unbothered response imaginable or the most effective reframe in tattoo history.
Lil Wayne — Arabic Script
Wayne has been tattooing his face since before face tattoos were a mainstream conversation and the results have been mixed at best. As Vibe reported, his Arabic face tattoo was mocked by fluent Arabic speakers who pointed out that the script was essentially meaningless, which is a particular kind of tattoo fail that hits differently when it is permanent and on your face.
Amber Rose — Face Tattoo
Amber Rose got her sons’ names tattooed across her forehead and as E! News reported, the internet had a full reaction and Amber clapped back without hesitation, saying it is her face and her children. The commitment is undeniable. The placement remains a conversation.
Drake — Aaliyah Back Tattoo
Drake tattooed Aaliyah on his back and as XXL documented in their full breakdown of his ink collection, this one raised questions about boundaries that the internet has been debating ever since. Drake has a complicated relationship with the concept of a tattoo being appropriate for the moment and this one sits at the center of that conversation permanently.
Post Malone — Everything Above The Neck
Post Malone has been covering his face in tattoos for years and as Sporting News broke down each piece and its meaning, the collection includes barbed wire, a gauntlet, a medieval knight, and the words “always tired” under his eyes, which is a sentence in tattoo form that we respect but cannot fully endorse. He has said he started getting face tattoos to make himself feel more comfortable in his own skin. The commitment to the vision is genuinely impressive.
Ice Spice — Saint Name Tattoo
As Yahoo Entertainment reported, Ice Spice revealed a tattoo of the name Saint, which sent the internet immediately into speculation mode about who Saint is and what they mean to her. Machine Gun Kelly — The Blackout
MGK went in a direction that most tattoo artists would at minimum have a conversation about before proceeding. Jhené Aiko — The Big Sean Situation
As E!
