Bob Odenkirk has cemented himself as one of Hollywood’s most unexpected action heroes. His foray into the genre began in 2021 with a highly lauded turn as ex-government assassin-turned-suburban family man Hutch Mansell in Nobody, which proved so successful that he reprised the role in 2025 for a sequel titled Nobody 2. He further expanded his repertoire this year by starring in Normal, an R-rated action thriller written by John Wick creator Derek Kolstad and directed by Ben Wheatley. The bullet-riddled bonanza earned widespread critical acclaim, with reviewers praising Odenkirk’s compelling lead performance as Ulysses, a substitute small-town sheriff who accidentally uncovers a massive criminal conspiracy – and it seems that he is not ready to turn in his badge yet, as the movie has earned a new release that is sure to put him back on screens.
“For Sheriff Ulysses, his provisional posting to the quaint Midwestern American town of Normal was meant to be a welcome respite from both his marital woes and recent moral injuries in the line of duty. But when a botched bank robbery interrupts the municipality’s tranquil pace, a sordid secret is inadvertently exposed and Ulysses learns that the town is anything but its namesake. Suddenly, everyone is trying to shoot the sheriff, even his own deputies, and our put-upon policeman must rely on his affable mettle and some motley crooks if he is to survive the night. (And that’s all before the Yakuza show up).”
Normal debuted to rave reviews following its screening in the Midnight Madness program at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). The small-town shoot-em-up earned a “Certified Fresh” score of 77% on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics celebrating its “over the top” visceral carnage and its “gleefully subversive” tone, putting it in the same territory as Fargo, John Wick, and Hot Fuzz. Magnolia Pictures acquired the U.S. distribution rights to the action thriller, and scheduled its theatrical release for Apr. 17, 2026. It arrived on streaming just over a month later, bringing Odenkirk’s unique brand of heroics into homes.
Now a new release has been set for Normal, which will no doubt give the film a second wind as it significantly expands its footprint – again. Magnolia Home Entertainment has confirmed that the movie is getting a home entertainment release, with a 4K Ultra HD & Blu-ray combo pack, a Blu-ray, and a DVD release planned for the title. All versions are scheduled to arrive on the market on Jul. 14, 2026, which means physical media enthusiasts will soon be able to add Odenkirk’s latest action epic to their shelves and give the disc a spin.
The artwork on the cover features Odenkirk dressed in his character’s sheriff uniform, armed with a tactical shotgun, along with the tagline: “Good cop. Bad town.” The release packs an extra punch as it comes with a bevy of bonus features, including behind-the-scenes shorts focusing on the cast, characters, and creative team. As per the special features list, shared by Blu-ray.com, the discs also boast a “making of” featurette, which will presumably explore the film’s production, detailing how the project was brought to life.

Strong home entertainment sales for Normal could boost the movie’s chances of getting a sequel, as it would prove that there is a dedicated, built-in audience eager for more. Both Odenkirk and Wheatley have stated that they would ideally like to turn it into a franchise, provided that there is enough demand for it. Kolstad also told Deadline back in September that the team was in the midst of figuring out a follow-up that could potentially put Ulysses back in action, though a second film has not been officially greenlit by the studio as yet.
