Dragon Ball Super artist Toyotarou just gave one of the anime’s most obscure villains a major glow-up.
As part of his official ongoing “Toyotarou Tries to Draw” series, the DBS mangaka has shared new art of the first-ever opponent Beerus fights in the anime (but not the Battle of Gods movie), an unnamed member of the now-extinct Mogina tribe. The new art was posted on Dragon Ball’s official website as entry #101 in the Toyotarou Tries to Draw series.
Beerus has long since destroyed Planet Mogina and its people, but Toyotarou’s new art immortalizes this early jobber character who many fans would’ve likely forgotten forever.
Toyotarou Homages the Race That Went Extinct in Dragon Ball Super
It’s easy to overlook the Moginaian warrior because he plays an extremely small part in the series. This is a character who was never in the original Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods movie that first adapted the Beerus Saga, and who also never appeared in Toyotarou’s manga adaptation.
He only ever appeared in a single filler scene in Dragon Ball Super Episode 2, “To the Promised Resort! Vegeta Goes on a Family Trip?!” In this episode, Beerus visits the Planet Mogina to test out their local delicacies. However, when Whis asks the savage Moginaine people to give Beerus some of their precious dinosaur meat, they take it personally.
While the Moginains are normally quite small and non-threatening creatures, they have a special transformation called “Battle Mode” that allows them to buff-up into a super strong form, somewhat similar to how Master Roshi instantly bulks up when he unleashes his full strength.

This full-powered Battle Mode is the version of the Mogina that Toyotarou drew in his new artwork, though with quite a bit more detail than was ever seen in the anime’s version of the character. Additionally, Toyotarou’s art gives the Moginaian a huge stone hammer weapon, which is new for the character who only used his fists to fight in his original anime appearance.
Of course, Beerus doesn’t take the Moginain’s sign of disrespect lightly, so he quickly disposes of the threat and destroys his entire planet for good measure. From then on, the Monginain people were presumably extinct, never to be seen again in the series.
The Mogina Are Unlikely to Appear in the Upcoming Dragon Ball Super: Beerus Anime Remake
Along with Toyotarou’s new art, the official Dragon Ball website included a short description of the Moginaian:
Even in their base form, a single Mogina can take down a massive dinosaur, and they power up even further when entering combat mode! However, they were no match for the overwhelming might of a God of Destruction, and Lord Beerus defeated them with just a single finger.
Additionally, Toyotarou also posted on his own X (formerly Twitter) account with a fun quip about the Moginaian: “This month, I drew a Mogina alien. You know… right!”
Toyotarou’s new art is a clear homage to this unique anime-only filler moment that probably won’t end up making the cut when the Beerus Saga gets remade in the upcoming Dragon Ball Super: Beerus anime coming this fall. It has already been reported that this version of the arc will be considerably shorter than the original (about six episodes compared to the original’s 15).
The Dragon Ball website has also insisted this remake will be more faithful to the manga’s story, making it doubly unlikely that Planet Mogina will appear. Toyotarou’s latest artwork may thus very well be the final tribute to the now extinct Mogina race that fans ever get to see.
