An excerpt from an upcoming book about the fashion mogul and reality star claimed that the rapper “completely changed” her life in more ways than one. New York Magazine’s The Cut published an excerpt from Jonathan Van Meter’s Citizen Kim: The Woman Who Created the Future. It sheds light on Kim Kardashian‘s marriage to Kanye West. At one point, she looked back on how her ex boosted her career and confidence.
Van Meter wrote that he asked Kardashian about her early days of dating West and how he “completely changed” her look. The SKIMS founder said, “Fairly new into the relationship, Kanye was like, ‘Can I give you a fashion makeover?’ and I didn’t even know what that meant. But I was open: ‘Sure! Dress me up!’ A team of stylists came in. I was in my first house on Abington, and I thought I had the best shoes — I thought I had it all.”
The mother-of-four continued that West dressed her in a black Givenchy dress and Tom Ford snakeskin shoes for a Lakers game they went to. She added that she returned home to find out that West’s team had discarded most of the shoes she owned. “And then there were racks and racks of new clothes, designers I’d never heard of before, like Lanvin,” she said.
Although among her friends Kardashian was considered to have the best taste, she admitted not knowing much about high fashion. She said, “I just didn’t know anything about high fashion. There were all these fashion books piled up. It was time to get to work and learn.” Of all the things West gave her, the one she emphasises to this day is: “He gave me so much confidence.”
