Phil Collins opened up about his daughter Lily Collins’ worst fear amid his struggles with alcoholism.
The 75-year-old singer reportedly almost drank himself to death in 2024 and ended up on life support in a Swiss hospital. At the time, his family traveled over to make some “tough decisions.”
During an appearance on Piers Morgan Uncensored on Friday, October 2, Phil detailed his “sobering” hospital stay.
“I went in there for pancreatitis a couple of times because of drinking. But up until that point in my life, I had never been in hospital and suddenly I was living in hospital. And it was literally sobering,” Phil recalled.
Phil revealed that his manager, Tony Smith, had gathered all five of his children in Switzerland to update them on his condition, adding that “it was not looking good at one point.”
“I was on a dialysis machine and, sort of things were just breaking down, and the decision was whether I should be kept on a dialysis machine,” the singer continued. “And of course, the kids now treat every visit as a bonus.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Phil revealed that the Emily in Paris star burst into tears last Christmas over fears he would die from alcoholism two years ago.
“It was moving, that was obvious. I mean, it was wonderful to hear their stories of how they feared they wouldn’t see me again,” Phil shared. “And Lily, for example, she just burst into tears, because she now has a child and she said, ‘I never thought that my child would get to know her grandfather’… It was very touching, very moving.”
In July, Phil shared a hopeful update about his health. “Physically now, I reckon I’m A1, 100 per cent,” he told Prog. “I’ve worked at it. Haven’t drunk for three years. I do physio three times a week, to bring me up to speed. All is good!”
