Developers at Quantic Dream have gone on strike to oppose impending layoffs, stating that the narrative-driven Star Wars Eclipse “cannot be finished” if the layoffs proceed.
The studio behind Heavy Rain and Detroit: Become Human announced Star Wars Eclipse at The Game Awards 2021, but has not discussed the game much since. In Feb. 2026, it launched a MOBA called Spellcasters Chronicles, which flopped and was subsequently taken offline earlier this month. In the wake of Spellcasters Chronicles‘ shuttering, Quantic Dream reportedly plans to carry out a round of layoffs affecting 115 workers.
In response, several Quantic Dream workers went on strike this past week when Lucasfilm representatives visited to check on the progress of Star Wars Eclipse. Those on strike told Gamekult (with comments translated by Kotaku) that development of the Star Wars game can’t be completed if over 100 developers are let go from Quantic Dream.
“We believe that, as things stand, the game literally cannot be finished if the redundancy plan is implemented as currently scheduled,” a developer named Theo said to Gamekult. Another developer named Jules argued that the strikes are “far from being an act of sabotage,” stating, “We could manage to release it with 115 additional people, and that wouldn’t be ‘overstaffed’: it’s what’s needed. We’re understaffed.”
The striking Quantic Dream developers ultimately believe that integrating the 115 developers into the Star Wars team, rather than laying them off, could bolster Star Wars Eclipse’s development. It could also prevent a smaller team from having to crunch under pressure and harsh deadlines. These comments suggest the game is also far from being complete, even though it was announced over four-and-a-half years ago.
Quantic Dream and Lucasfilm have not commented on the strike. The studio last mentioned Star Wars Eclipse when announcing the discontinuation of Spellcasters Chronicles and the impending layoffs, stating, “The development of Star Wars Eclipse is not affected by this decision and continues as planned.”
