Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 19 debuted on Paramount+ on May 28, which likely accounts for the show’s streaming surge. However, the series is frequently a fixture of the Paramount+ streaming chart, which may be one reason Paramount+ has already renewed Criminal Minds for Season 20.
Criminal Minds: Evolution continues where Criminal Minds left off after 15 seasons on CBS. CBS canceled Criminal Minds in 2020, only for Paramount to relaunch the show on Paramount+ in 2021 as Criminal Minds: Evolution. Though the show’s title changed, it kept the seasonal numbering from its network day, launching with Season 16.
Criminal Minds: Evolution has taken on more of the serialized storytelling of the streaming age. Season 18 began six months after prisoners attacked the serial killer Elias Voit, a.k.a. the Sicarius Killer, inspiring his restless followers on the dark web to begin wreaking havoc all over the country. To stop the group from killing more innocents, the BAU was forced to work alongside an increasingly erratic Voit, who maintained his own agenda.
Criminal Minds Season 19 begins with Volt back in prison, but his story isn’t over, and the BAU is still dealing with the aftermath of Season 18’s events. Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 19 also features a long list of high-caliber guest stars, with Connor Storries, star of Netflix’s hit series Heated Rivals, at the top. The list also includes Justin Kirk (Angels in America), Yvette Nicole Brown (Community), Clark Gregg (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D), Paul F. Tompkins (Bojack Horseman), Cress Williams (Black Lightning), Kofi Siriboe (Queen Sugar), Lyndon Smith (Step Sisters), Richard Cabral (Mayans), Jeri Ryan (Star Trek: Picard), Rob Yang (The Menu), Nicholas Gonzalez (The Good Doctor), Inny Clemons (Judging Amy), Nicole Pacent (Westworld), Dash Mihok (Ray Donovan), Joseph Cross (Big Little Lies), and Cara Jade Myers (Killers of the Flower Moon).
Criminal Minds: Evolution Keeps the Beloved Crime Series Alive
“We’re thrilled to bring even more twisted storylines to our loyal fans of Criminal Minds: Evolution with the order of another season,” Tanya Giles, chief programming officer of Paramount Streaming, said while announcing a previous Criminal Minds: Evolution renewal. “The series has always been a consistent top performer for Paramount+, and fans have quickly embraced this new season with its more serialized elements. There are still many dark twists and turns yet to come for the BAU this season, and we can’t wait for fans to see what’s in store.”
20th Television and CBS Studios produce Criminal Minds: Evolution. Erica Messer (Criminal Minds, Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders) is the showrunner and an executive producer. Other executive producers on the series include Breen Frazier, Chris Barbour, Glenn Kershaw, and Mark Gordon.
