Pokémon Officially Unveils New Eeveelutions Coming October 13

Of all the Pokémon across the franchise’s existing nine generations, Eevee may arguably be one of the most popular (if not the most adorable) of the entire lot. Since its debut in Generation 1 alongside Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon, Eevee’s evolutionary family has steadily expanded with Espeon, Umbreon, Leafeon, Glaceon, and Sylveon joining the lineup over the years, all of which have incredibly unique looks and personalities of their own.

Eevee’s appeal goes well beyond its cute design, however, with its ability to evolve into its different forms based on factors like evolutionary stones, friendship, location, and affection, making it one of the franchise’s most distinctive Mon. Eeveelutions also run the gambit of several beloved different types, giving the larger family a gimmick and style unlike anything else in the Pokédex. Still, more than a decade after Sylveon became the last new Eeveelution, another addition feels long overdue.

Fortunately, fans won’t have to wait much longer to see a new Eeveelution featured in a long-running Pokémon favorite, with a brand-new release arriving October 13.

Pokémon is finishing off its latest wave of fresh new fighters later this month in Unite, with Flareon and Jolteon both joining the roster on October 13. The two Eeveelutions were originally announced alongside Morpeko and Toxtricity, which have already made their debuts. Morpeko arrived on September 4, followed by Toxtricity on September 24, leaving the two Generation 1 Eevee-family favorites to close out the group together next week.

Jolteon will enter Unite as a Speedster built around mobility and quickly attacking opponents. According to the game’s official description, dealing enough damage allows it to unleash a powerful electrical attack from close range before using its agility to escape danger. Flareon takes a more direct approach as an All-Rounder specializing in close-quarters combat. Using moves raises its body temperature, producing heat that damages nearby opponents and rewards players for staying in the middle of things.

The two Eeveelution releases also officially complete the full set of eight Eeveelutions in Pokémon Unite. Sylveon, Espeon, Glaceon, Leafeon, Umbreon, and Vaporeon are already playable, meaning the addition of Jolteon and Flareon finally brings the entire evolutionary family together. Their October 13 debut will appropriately coincide with the start of another Eevee Festival, including the returning “Eevee Appeal-o-rama,” a limited-time Quick Battle mode that only allows Eevee and its evolutions, with a special effect appearing when every member of a team selects a different Eeveelution. The event is scheduled to run through December 1.

For anyone who hasn’t jumped into Pokémon Unite, the free-to-start game offers a very different take on traditional Pokémon battles. Developed by The Pokémon Company and Tencent Games’ TiMi Studios, it is available on Nintendo Switch and mobile devices with cross-platform play.

Matches pit two teams of five against one another on Aeos Island. Players defeat wild Pokémon as well as opponents to gain experience and collect Aeos energy, which must then be deposited into enemy goal zones to score points. Pokémon can level up, learn new moves, and, depending on the character, evolve during a match, creating a blend of familiar mechanics and MOBA-style team strategy that, despite lackluster reviews, is still well worth checking out if you’re looking for a new Pokémon experience.
