The Crow is returning for an exciting new release for the first time in decades, but Eric Draven won’t be the star of the show. Massive Publishing’s new run of The Crow: Flesh and Blood arrives later this month.
Solicits from Massive Publishing tease that The Crow: Flesh & Blood is finally returning to print in comic book format for the first time since 1996. Originally a graphic novel, Flesh and Blood‘s new debut issue will bring fans back into James Vance’s thrilling story of the first female crow. To celebrate the occasion, Massive Publishing has debuted a series of new cover art for Flesh and Blood #1, with the main cover by Mighty Morphin Power Rangers‘ Suspiria Vilchez and other variants by Ingrid Gala, Damian Connelly, Christian Rosado and Brao Var.

The Crow: Flesh and Blood Returns to Print 30 Years Later
The new solicit for Flesh and Blood gives fans unfamiliar with the story a glimpse into where the opening will take them: “Against the rugged beauty of the western mountains, Iris Shaw, a federal conservation officer, is murdered when right-wing extremists blow up her office. But her death is only part of the tragedy — she was carrying an unborn child.”
This all leads into a familiar premise for those who have already seen The Crow and are familiar with Eric Draven’s own story. “Denied peace, Iris is resurrected by the crow to seek brutal vengeance on the men who stole her life and future. Now, driven by supernatural fury, she hunts them down one by one, delivering justice from beyond the grave.”
The Crow: Flesh and Blood will be giving fans new parts of the story each month, with the second issue already scheduled to be released on Nov. 11. Keeping the stakes high, it picks up with the FBI on Iris’s tail and making her question her new purpose and the revenge she’s seeking.
The third issue is scheduled for Dec. 09, and it remains to be seen if the story will continue publication in the new year. Dark Horse’s The Crow: Flesh and Blood trade paperback edition, which was published in 2004, spanned 96 pages — which could easily equate to four separate issues if Massive Publishing didn’t wrap the story up with the third.
Eric Draven Is Still The Most Iconic Version of The Crow
The new release of The Crow: Flesh and Blood gives fans of the franchise the chance to explore its deeper and darker regions well beyond Eric Draven’s story that the general public is most familiar with. Eric was the protagonist of the original comic book and is most commonly associated with The Crow after Brandon Lee’s portrayal in the 1994 film of the same name. Mark Dacascos also portrayed Eric in 1998’s television series The Crow: Stairway to Heaven.
Still, there is a rich history of other Crows across comics and other media, including several other women who have assumed the title. Flesh and Blood‘s Iris is just the first woman to take on the role, with others following her, including Elorah in The French Crow, Carrie in The Crow: Curare, and Angeles Cero in The Crow / Hack/Slash.
The Crow: Flesh and Blood #1 releases on October 7 from Massive Publishing.
