Tom Hardy’s 109-Minute Gritty Sci-Fi Action Is a Sudden Streaming Hit After 2 Years

Tom Hardy is known for some high-profile roles over the years. One of his latest, a fan-favorite comic adaptation, is currently gaining some new steam on streaming: 2024’s Venom: The Last Dance.

The film was the final entry in Hardy’s Venom trilogy and is now getting a new audience. According to new data from FlixPatrol, Venom: The Last Dance has landed on the top 10 charts of most-watched movies for Disney+ in late August. The movie joins other Marvel-themed movies like Spider-Man: No Way Home, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and more. For fans looking to check out the movie outside of Disney+, The Last Dance is also available to rent on other digital storefronts.

Venom: The Last Dance Is the Last Entry in Hardy’s Trilogy

Originally released in 2024, Venom: The Last Dance is a sequel to both 2018’s Venom and 2021’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage. The movie is the final entry in what became Hardy’s trilogy, where he played Eddie Brock, the human who bonds with the Venom symbiote and becomes thrust into adventures with it.

The Last Dance follows the story of Eddie and Venom being on the run from both people in Brock’s past, as well as the terrifying symbiote creator Knull, who is in search of Venom. As they try to find a way to safely stay away from both, Brock begins to realize their time together might have come to an end.

Alongside Hardy, Venom: The Last Dance also stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Juno Temple, Rhys Ifans, Stephen Graham, Peggy Lu, and Alanna Ubach. The movie is written and directed by Kelly Marcel, who also co-wrote Venom and Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Despite receiving mixed reviews in the form of a 40% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, The Last Dance was still a major box office hit. The movie earned over $478 million, and in total, the Venom franchise grossed over $1.84 billion.

Venom’s Movie Future Remains Unknown After The Last Dance

The Last Dance was seemingly the end of the story arc for Eddie Brock and Venom, and was meant to set up the future of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe by incorporating Knull, a legendary comic character, into its universe. Although Hardy’s role as Brock was said to be done, Hardy expressed his desire to keep playing the role and hopefully one day get the chance to cross over with Spider-Man on the screen.

The third Venom movie also briefly does a crossover with the MCU, as Hardy and the Venom symbiote are teleported into the MCU’s timeline at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home. However, nothing has come of it yet, and it’s unclear if Hardy’s Brock and Venom will ever get the chance to cross paths with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man.

Earlier this year, it was reported that an animated Venom movie was in the works. Final Destination: Bloodlines directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein were said to be attached to the project. That movie still reportedly remains in development, although little is known about it as of yet.
