You Can See Everything is a documentary that is being eyed for a Best Picture nomination. While the Oscars do have a Best Documentary category, the format has never broken into the mainstream Best Picture category. However, that is far from the most groundbreaking category the movie might land in.
You Can See Everything, a documentary about Elizabeth Holmes’ final days before she began serving her prison sentence, might just be in for a Best Supporting Actress nomination (via Deadline).
The bid stems from a dramatic reconstruction of a scene that director Nathan Fielder commissioned. It involved Amanda Seyfried, who played Holmes in The Dropout, and Christopher Abbott. The scene was an interaction that Fielder was not allowed to film as part of his documentary. Seyfried is involved in the latter half of the movie, participating in re-enactments and asking questions about Holmes.
A24 is reportedly considering whether a documentary can feature an actress in a supporting role. The Academy Awards have no rules that disqualify such a move. A24 would be well within its rights to launch the campaign if it sees merit in the decision.
What other Academy Awards could You Can See Everything potentially win?
You Can See Everything could be nominated in multiple categories at the Academy Awards. Some suggest the movie could also get a Best Documentary Feature nomination and a Best Picture nomination. A24 is still uncertain about the Best Supporting Actress pitch. However, the movie could also win in Best Directing, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, and even Best Original Soundtrack.
You Can See Everything is currently in theaters. Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim direct the movie. A24, To Be Formed, and Blow Out Productions produced it.
