On The Young and the Restless, we’re seeing Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) developing this bizarre fixation on little Ruby Abbott. This week, Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) told Adam to stay away from Ruby and from Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope). Adam isn’t going to do it. When his obsession gets even darker, what will he do?
Literally everybody around Adam has taken note of his inappropriate fascination with Sally’s baby. It started ever since he delivered Ruby. Honestly, Adam has thought a lot about Sally’s baby even before her birth. Adam may go dark and do something extreme to try to protect this kid.
Young and the Restless Spoilers: Billy Warns Adam to Stay Away from Ruby and Sally
Right now, Adam is not only fixated on protecting Ruby. He has also decided that Billy is not doing right by his daughter. When Billy came back from London, Sally told him that Adam saw them in the park. Then Adam came to the house to visit her and Ruby. Of course, Billy got really angry. Adam was unapologetic and started snarling.
Adam talked about how, as soon as Sally gave birth to Ruby, Billy just hightailed it out of town and left them. That really ticked Billy off on Young and the Restless. He reminded Adam that his mom, Jill Abbott (Jess Walton), was on what they thought was actually her deathbed. Billy snarked, “My mom is fine, by the way, not that you asked.”
Adam didn’t care about what went on with Jill. He didn’t seem to register it when Billy said that this was life or death for his family. It wasn’t like he was off on vacation. But Adam isn’t hearing these facts. So, Billy told Adam, “Do not come back to our house unless you’re invited.”
Despite Billy’s warning, I’m sure Adam is going to keep showing up. Billy is going to get angry. I fully expect Adam at some point to throw down physically with Billy. So the first thing is that the fixation could cause a physical fight with Billy.
Y&R Spoilers: Adam’s Fixation Could Tear Apart His Marriage to Chelsea
Another outcome we could see from this baby Ruby obsession is that it tears Adam and Chelsea Lawson Newman’s (Melissa Claire Egan) marriage apart. This week, she was talking to Abby Newman (Melissa Ordway) about Adam’s baby request. He just brought it back up to Chelsea, about them having another kid. He first mentioned it a few months ago. She told Abby she’s not even sure if she wants another baby.
Chelsea definitely doesn’t want a baby just because Sally had a baby and Adam is fixated on that kid. Chelsea asked Adam why Billy was so upset at their house. Adam just turned and walked out on her. He didn’t answer. It seems like his sole focus right now is on Ruby.
Chelsea also told Abby she doesn’t think Adam is looking to get back with Sally. However, Chelsea saying that might be a little bit of foreshadowing. Their relationship seems solid, but Adam just isn’t communicating with her. He didn’t tell Chelsea that he went over to Sally’s place to visit Ruby without her.
If you remember, Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) confronted Adam about it. That was when Chelsea found out he went over there, and she wasn’t happy. So, it sounds like trouble is coming. Adam might snap. He may just leave Chelsea.
Adam Could Cause Trouble for Sally and Billy’s Marriage on Young and the Restless
Related to potential problems in Adam and Chelsea’s marriage, we could see Adam trying to cause problems for Sally and Billy’s marriage. Already, Adam’s presence is causing some issues. Sally’s very grateful to Adam. At this point, she doesn’t think his involvement in Ruby’s life is problematic in any way.
However, Billy strongly disagrees. That’s why he told Adam not to come back to the house. But Sally already told Adam he could come by and see Ruby whenever he wants. I expect Adam will stop back by. Then he may tell her that Billy might get mad and told him to stay away.
Sally’s probably going to have some things to say to Billy about that. She’ll encourage him to show Adam some grace because he delivered their baby. It was very promising, actually, that Billy acknowledged Adam’s grief over losing Ava. Billy said he understands how it feels to lose a daughter. Of course he does, with Delia Abbott (Sophie Pollono).
At this point, though, I think Adam just thinks Billy isn’t doing right by Ruby or Sally. Adam may try to wreck their new marriage. He might even try to reconcile with Sally. All this has Adam mixed up in the head. He’s caught up in his feelings, and it seems like they’re getting more obsessive.
Sally May Tap the Brakes on Adam’s Visits
I don’t think he is going to make much progress breaking up Billy and Sally’s marriage, by the way. Adam’s fixation on Ruby may actually have Sally rethinking giving Adam permission to just stop by whenever he wants. If he starts getting darker and more fixated, I think Sally may tap the brakes on that.
I don’t think Adam would like that. In his mind, Ruby needs him there to protect her. Adam is basically getting Ava and Ruby mixed up in his head. Billy specifically told Adam that Ruby is not a replacement for Ava. I mean, Adam should know that, but does he?
Spoilers Suggest Adam Could Kidnap Sally and Ruby
If Sally is pushing back on Adam and he feels like that’s leaving baby Ruby vulnerable to some sort of danger, then Adam may rationalize in his head that it’s OK for him to go to extremes. I could see a world where he actually kidnaps both Sally and Ruby to protect them.
The question is, of course, does Adam have residual affection for Sally? I don’t know. But I think a kidnapping might be more about Billy and Sally pushing Adam away and setting boundaries, rather than respecting those boundaries. Adam may decide drastic action is needed. Plus, he’s a known kidnapper.
Nick and Victor Tell Adam to Step Back on Y&R
Tying into that, there is a chance that Adam might decide that both Sally and Billy are not good for Ruby. Last week, I think that’s when he was talking to Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow). Adam had mentioned there were some things Sally didn’t seem to know how to do with the baby, and Nick was defending her. I seem to remember him telling Adam that Sally’s going to be a great mom. Then Adam kind of pushed back on Nick about something she didn’t know. Of course, both Victor and Nick have told Adam he’s got to stop this and step back. What he’s doing is not appropriate. I don’t think these warnings are going to stop Adam.
Adam’s Dark History Makes a Ruby Kidnapping Believable on Young and the Restless
If Sally won’t let Adam hang around to protect the baby, and Billy is making sure there are roadblocks in the way, Adam may get even more fixated instead of less. He might actually snatch Ruby and just run off with her. That would not be out of character for Adam Newman if you look back at his history.
He kidnapped Faith Newman (Reylynn Caster) twice when she was a baby. When Chloe Mitchell (Elizabeth Hendrickson) tried to kill Adam, he had Chloe kidnapped and stashed away for a while. At one point, Adam even had Chelsea kidnapped. Plus, that’s just the tip of the iceberg on Adam’s bad deeds when he has gone dark.
Y&R Spoilers: Adam Gets Darker as Sweeps Heat Up
Honestly, I’m just so excited to see them finally giving Mark Grossman something to work with, a front burner storyline, because he is so talented. I fully expect Adam is going to get darker and more obsessed. In his mind, he thinks he’s doing the right thing by Ruby.
If he kidnaps her and just runs off, it might be because Adam’s brain has gotten so twisted up that he really thinks she’s Ava. Maybe he thinks he’s her dad. We’ll see how bad it gets. Sweeps is going to be wild.
