Zack Snyder’s Justice League fights its way to streaming success years later.
Snyder’s DC movies have become a divisive part of DC’s history, with the director’s unique vision helping steer the old DCEU movie franchise for many years. After a multi-year run in the franchise, 2017’s Justice League was mostly reshot by The Avengers director Joss Whedon, with the theatrical cut being very different from what Snyder intended, and the director never went back to DC. In 2021, Zack Snyder’s Justice League was finally released on HBO Max, showcasing what the director had in mind, and it became a streaming hit. Now, five years later, the DC movie repeats that success elsewhere.
According to FlixPatrol, Zack Snyder’s Justice League is currently the 8th most-watched movie on Netflix worldwide. The DC film stands higher than the new Netflix Original movie Ladies First, a genre-twisting comedy with Sacha Baron Cohen and Rosamund Pike, and the Chinese animated movie Boonie Bears: The Big Shrink. Zack Snyder’s Justice League finds itself in the company of major hits like the Netflix Original movies Office Romance — with Brett Goldstein and Jennifer Lopez — and Swapped, starring the last Best Actor Oscar winner, Michael B. Jordan. Other movies on Netflix’s global top 10 include Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Monster-in-Law, and more.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League was originally released on HBO Max on March 18, 2021. Five years later, Snyder’s last movie in the DCEU is trending in 21 countries on Netflix. The film manages to rank as high as the most-watched movie on Netflix in New Caledonia. Other countries where Zack Snyder’s Justice League has become a Netflix streaming sensation include France, Greece, Norway, Nigeria, South Africa, Sweden, and more. At the time of writing, Zack Snyder’s Justice League is trending in European and African countries. The film is nowhere to be seen on Netflix’s streaming charts in the United States, for good reason.
After all, Zack Snyder’s Justice League is not currently available to stream on Netflix nationwide. Instead, those who want to watch the longer cut of Justice League that brings Snyder’s vision to life can do so on HBO Max, where the film has been available since its debut in 2021, as well as on YouTube TV. Zack Snyder’s Justice League has many differences in relation to the 2017 theatrical cut of Justice League that was reshot by Whedon. For instance, DC’s biggest villain from the comics, Darkseid, has an actual role in the version of the DCEU movie that is now trending on Netflix.
Darkseid is played by Ray Porter in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Snyder also brought in new scenes with characters like Batman, the Joker, Deathstroke, and more to his version of the film. Zack Snyder’s Justice League becoming a global hit on Netflix years after its original debut on HBO Max is an interesting event, given that fans of the director have been campaigning for years for Netflix to revive the DC Snyderverse with Snyder’s originally planned Justice League sequels. While that still seems like a distant possibility, Zack Snyder’s Justice League‘s global performance on Netflix might help its case.
