Alan Ritchson’s New Action Thriller Spin-off Is Already One of the Biggest Shows in the World

The first official Reacher spin-off is finally here, and it’s already taking over on streaming, despite some mediocre reviews. Prime Video has dropped some massive action series over the past few years. Ride or Die, which was released earlier this year, is still one of the biggest shows on the platform, and then there are major hits like The Night Manager, the recently concluded The Boys, Chris Pratt’s The Terminal List, and Cross. But it’s safe to say that the biggest and best action series on Prime Video right now is Reacher. So, it’s no surprise that Prime Video has tried to capitalize on that with a spin-off. The reviews might be mixed, but the series is already a global sensation.

After just one day on streaming, Prime Video’s first Reacher spin-off, Neagley, is one of the biggest shows on streaming worldwide. Reacher still holds the top spot on Prime Video’s global streaming chart. However, Neagley has beaten out tough competition, like Off Campus, Sterling Point, and the aforementioned Ride or Die, to become the second most popular show on Prime Video globally and in the US. It has also beaten all the movies on the platform to become the second most-watched piece of content (for lack of a better word) in the US.

Is ‘Neagley’ As Good as ‘Reacher’?

Admittedly, Neagley has a very good Rotten Tomatoes score at face value. It holds a tremendous 90% rating from the critics, with an 87% user score. In comparison, Reacher has an overall 95% critics’ rating and a lower 77% user score. And both are still miles better than the Tom Cruise movies (they’re good films, but they’re bad Jack Reacher stories). However, if you dig a bit deeper into Neagley‘s RT scores, it’s not as impressive as it first seems. Fewer than 50 RT users have submitted reviews, meaning its 87% audience score can’t be called accurate yet. Then, there’s the critics’ rating. Rotten Tomatoes counts any score of 3/5 or higher as positive. So, while it might be 90%, it doesn’t mean that the individual reviews are glowing.

It’s not a bad show, but the big problem seems to be its leading character. Frances Neagley is a fan favorite, and Maria Sten is great in the role. But Reacher is such an over-the-top and bombastic universe led by a larger-than-life (literally) main character. Neagley‘s world feels similarly over-the-top, but Neagley is a far more grounded and gritty character, and those tones often clash.

‘Neagley’s Future Has Seemingly Been Confirmed Already

Prime Video is officially waiting to gauge the reactions to Neagley before renewing the show for a second season. But that hasn’t stopped the show’s creator, Nicholas Wootton, from planning ahead. “We’d totally go into it in Season 2,” Wootton told Collider. ” There’s a big twist in there and a whole thing. It’s a really fun story for Renee, and Keno is tied into it as well because he’s helping her find him, and it’s the discovery of who he is. We have a whole storyline for it. We have it all figured out. It’s all written.”
