Though most countries have long since said goodbye to both the anime and manga, Attack on Titan remains incredibly popular around the world. Now, the franchise is being celebrated in a perhaps unexpected country.
Burger King Russia reportedly has a new collaboration scheduled for Attack on Titan, with this chiefly involving special menu items based on the anime. There will also be special collectibles involved in the event, which is said to be launching soon, according to multiple Russian sources. While the main versions of the story are over, Russia is getting one final bite to showcase its fandom.
The chief fast food item in this new Burger King Russia x Attack on Titan collaboration is the “Founding Titan” Whopper, which makes the bun of Burger King’s most iconic hamburger black. It also adds special red cheese in place of a yellow slice, and it will be paired with “Titan Injection” sauce representing the serum used to turn humans into Titans in the anime.
Reported information also mentions a sriracha-inspired “Rumbling Seasoning,” referencing a storyline element seen at the end of the anime/manga’s plot.
There will also be collectible figures based on the anime, with these being completely new and different from the ones used in previous collaborations. The human figures are Eren Yeager, Mikasa Ackerman, Gabi Braun and Levi Ackerman, with this lineup meant to represent the characters at different points in the latter story arcs.
There are also four Titan figures, with these representing the Beast Titan, the Armored Titan, the Colossal Titan and the Tooth Titan — all of which also appear on one of four collectible glasses. However, according to early reports, these may become available later than the rest of the promotion.
This is the second Attack on Titan collaboration with Burger King Russia, and just like the former, it’s theoretically unofficial, running without the official blessing of Kodansha or a licensing agreement — even outside of fast food in Russia, a notable point of contention with rightsholders.
Pricing details of the new crossover are still unknown, but the event will reportedly begin on Sept. 16. The themed drinking glasses, however, are expected to become available closer to sometime in October. Given the unofficial nature of the collaboration, it’s unfortunately unlikely to see the light of day elsewhere, matching the amorphous nature of more official Attack on Titan items and merchandise.
