The wait for Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 will finally come to an end just in time for Halloween. Michael C. Hall’s Dexter Morgan will be back to doing what he does best with new serial killers to take out, but after so many years of vigilantism, the Bay Harbor Butcher is changing his mindset.
The next season of Resurrection does something new with the Dexter character. He’s now dealing with a midlife crisis amid setting his sights on the city’s most dangerous murderers, such as Lucas Stark, also known as the Five Borough Killer (Dan Stevens). In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Clyde Phillips shared how Lucas intentionally kills people in each borough to make himself more infamous. This brings about a major change for Dexter since the start of the series.
Dexter Now Yearns for Recognition for His Work
Going back to his early days, Dexter realized how important it was to keep himself unidentified. When the police investigation intensified in the second season of the original show, Dexter frames his killings on Doakes, making the public believe that he was actually the Bay Harbor Butcher. Now that Dexter is watching another serial killer getting attention for his crimes, the vigilante can’t help but struggle with the knowledge that he can never be recognized for his own work, putting him at odds with his longtime rule.
“[Lucas] is killing in each borough to terrorize the city,” Phillips said. “In his own weird midlife crisis way, one of the things that Dexter has always wanted is recognition. At the end of Season 1 of the original series, we have the scene where he’s being feted with confetti and people cheering him on and an airplane goes by with ‘I heart Dexter.’ As independent as he likes to think he is, he wants that recognition, and by the time the Five Borough Killer has killed one person, he already has the city in his grip. And that drives Dexter f—ing crazy, because nobody knows who he is.”
Joey Quinn Returns in Dexter: Resurrection Season 2
In the first season of Resurrection, Dexter came close to being exposed. Angel Batista (David Zayas) was quickly closing in on him before he was murdered by Leon Prater (Peter Dinklage), making Dexter safe for the time being. While Season 2 picks up after a three-year time jump, Dexter will have another familiar face from the past catching back up with him. Desmond Harrington will be featured as a series regular in Season 2, reprising his role from the original show as Joey Quinn. After Batista’s death, will Joey finally be able put the pieces together?
Other new serial killers introduced in Season 2 include Brian Cox as Don Framt, also known as the New York Ripper, and Gabriel Luna as Ray Ballard, the unidentified murderer known as the Sleepy-Eyed Strangler. Additionally, it’s been revealed that Krysten Ritter returns as Mia LaPierre, a.k.a. Lady Vengeance, after her apparent death in the first season. On how she could return in Season 2, Phillips quipped, “Well, this is Dexter after all!”
Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 will premiere on Oct. 30, 2026, on Paramount+ with Showtime.
