Jim Geoghan has passed away. According to Variety, the Disney TV veteran and The Suite Life of Zack & Cody co-creator died on September 6, 2026, at the age of 79. He co-created The Suite Life of Zack & Cody with Danny Kallis and served as an executive producer on the Disney Channel sitcom. The series starred Dylan and Cole Sprouse as twin brothers Zack and Cody Martin.
The Suite Life of Zack & Cody premiered on Disney Channel in March 2005. It followed the mischievous twins as they lived with their mother at the fictional Tipton Hotel. The main cast also included Brenda Song, Ashley Tisdale, Phill Lewis, and Kim Rhodes.
The show became a major Disney Channel hit. It ran for three seasons and 87 episodes before ending in 2008. Its success led to a sequel series, The Suite Life on Deck, which again featured the Sprouse twins as Zack and Cody. Geoghan also worked on the follow-up series.
The franchise later expanded with The Suite Life Movie, which premiered on Disney Channel in 2011. Geoghan’s work on the franchise earned him Emmy recognition. The Suite Life of Zack & Cody received Primetime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Children’s Program in 2007 and 2008, with Geoghan among the credited producers.
The 79-year-old started his career in entertainment with comedy. During the 1970s, he performed with the New York comedy trio Divided We Stand and spent years performing at colleges, nightclubs, and comedy venues. He eventually moved to Los Angeles and began working as a television writer in 1980.
Geoghan’s career extended well beyond the Disney Channel franchise. He worked as a writer and producer on television projects including Silver Spoons, Boys Will Be Boys, The Van Dyke Show, and Family Matters.
The Suite Life of Zack & Cody co-creator also had a strong connection to theater. His comedy Only Kidding ran off-Broadway for 500 performances and received two Drama Desk Award nominations. His play Light Sensitive premiered at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego and went on to have 40 productions around the country.
Geoghan’s death marks the loss of a veteran television writer and producer. His work on The Suite Life of Zack & Cody helped establish a successful Disney Channel franchise. Geoghan is survived by his wife, Annie, and their daughter, Genevieve Geoghan.
