Final Fantasy 14’s First New Evercold Job Has Been Revealed

Final Fantasy 14 Evercold’s first new job has been revealed, and it’s a heavy one, as it’s a Tank class, named Bastion, which uses twin-shields with guns built into their design, that can both damage enemies and protect allies from harm.

The Evercold expansion is set to add two jobs to Final Fantasy 14, both of which are entirely new to the franchise, and won’t reference the older games. These have been confirmed to include a Tank that absorbs hits, and a Ranged Physical DPS that will harm enemies from afar. Considering Evercold is set in a frozen location, many fans expected some kind of Norse-theme for the jobs, which matches the debut trailer.

Final Fantasy 14 Evercold’s New Job Is The Bastion

CBR was in attendance at Final Fantasy 14 Fanfest Berlin, where Producer Naoki Yoshida revealed that the first new job coming to Evercold is the Bastion, a Main Tank that leads the way through dungeons. The Bastion fights with Skyltborg, metal shields with firearms hooked up to the fists. The trailer for the Bastion is now available on the official Final Fantasy YouTube channel.

Evercold is adding a new battle system, called Evolved Mode, which streamlines the combat mechanics. As one of the two new jobs, the Bastion ONLY uses Evolved Mode, meaning, players have to adapt to the system if they wish to take up the Skyltborg. As little has been revealed about Evolved Mode, it’s unknown exactly how the fans will respond to the changes, and if they prove to be unpopular, then maybe they’ll be rolled back, and the Bastion will be given a traditional button layout.

How The Bastion Works In Final Fantasy 14 Evercold

The Bastion starts at Level 90 and can be found in Lima Lonimsa. The Skyltborg switches between styles, with powers that can target allies that heal or protect them. The exact details of the Bastion’s commands have yet to be revealed, but its explosive firearms and punch attacks prove that it will be able to go toe-to-toe with the new foes introduced in Evercold. Chances are, it will be quickly familiar to those who have conquered the Primals as one of the existing Tank jobs.

The Tank role is one of the trickiest to master in Final Fantasy 14, as it demands mastery of the game and its dungeons, as they’re often expected to lead the way into battle and know exactly how many allies to attract. Anyone who has reached Final Fantasy 14 Evercold has already spent hundreds of hours playing the game, so it shouldn’t be too difficult for them to pick up the Skyltborg and take up a place of pride in the vanguard.
